Hmmmmmm no diodes and no additional preamp tubes but more gain????? I guess there is another way to get more gain from a Marshall???

delete the cathode follower and turn v2b triode into 4th gain stage =) you can add gain many different ways, playing with bypass caps, treble peaking / bright caps , plate and cathode resistors all will effect gain. In a Jose is primarily that and the zeners / transistors that actually really don't seems to add gain they just compress the signal, sometimes to much if your not careful and use the wrong ones the wrong way... :)

roccaforte, splawn, cameron, and others do this all the time. It was actually in one of the older tube amp books to , i forget which one.

ripping sound, nice job J man!

Change the cathode follower to a common cathode stage. Been around as long as tubes have, long before any of us.

THIS is why I'm a Jerry Dyer, and respectfully a Jerry P fan... Old school, amp knowledge... you don't have to put a Diode or extra tube under an amps ass to get it cooking.... ALL respect to Cameron/Friedman products, just not my sound...

True you dont have to but IMO clip #1 here sounds pretty damn good but the other clips base tone is lost in a sea of gain sounds Recto & not Marshall.
You can add an extra 12AX7 even a diode without losing the flavor of the original amp if you know what you're doing.

Meow!! Super BASS is right!! Lot'sa lows comin' outta that sucker!! Sounds great bud!! \m/\m/

I also prefer 3 preamp tubes to a 4th.. I prefer less compression and more raw which is what I hear in this clip with my ear anyway. I also don't obsess about having to get the gain i want without an OD.

that sounds really aggressive Jerry.
2 questions, where did you get that blue tool holder behind the amp, hanging on the wall?

also, whats that black wand with the yellow cable coming out of it...housed in the gold box? lol...a special customer/cattle prod?

The tool hangers came from Home Depot I think, might have been Lowes. That's an old soldering iron I use for soldering heavy stuff like amp chassis grounds.
