elo fella's, looking for some advice here.

wanting a new flavour of tone from my dsl 50, so i've decided to splash out on some new tubes and a new fiddle from a mate. So, for Iron Maiden tones and slightly more modern tones (bassicaly just a kick arse rock/metal marshall tone), what preamp tubes would you guys suggest? I'm preferably looking for no fizz over the top, just pure marshall thickness - you know what I mean!

guitars running through it would be an american standard strat with either a hotrail or jb jr in the bridge, and a les paul with a dimarzio tone zone in the bridge. Probably boosting the crunch channel with a zw od.

Cheers in advance gents.

Anyone on the booze tonight?

JAN Phillips 12AX7WA.

Pricey but bar none the best preamp tube I have ever tried.

Agreed! They aren't too bad. Usually about $25 each.

i loved the Sovtek's in my Marshall superbass, and also JJ's are good if you prefer a darker sound
