Two short videos. one with the Marshall Vintage Modern boosted with a Barber Direct Drive and the other is my 5150II. No effects. EQs around noon. Low volumes. Greenback loaded Marshall 4x12. Strat with a DiMarzio Tone Zone S in the bridge.

Marshall Vintage Modern

Peavey 5150II

They sound about the same in that clips..........

Get your 5150 FJA Modded.....then repost.

damn, im really surprised at how you managed to dial in both of those so similar.

i prefer the 5150 II stock, your's i wouldnt modify at all, damn thing does not need to be modified, wish either of mine sounded like that stock :inlove:

going to have to give it to the 5150. but im biased since i own one too.......FWIW.

I honestly can't decide which I like better. They sound VERY similar. The VM may have a tad more hair, but really I don't hear any major differences between the two. I'll take the cowardly (but honest) way out and not even vote :emofag: :grim:

Both sounded great BTW

One thing I can tell you is that in the room the 5150II was a little fuller but the Marshall has a lot more karrange to the mids. The camera simply did not pickup the tones all that well. Plus lets face it, we all dial in "our tone". These amps are very different but I go for a certain sound and this is evidence of that.

in these clips, the 5150 by a long shot- more body, more girth, less bees

I liked the 5150 better, sounded a little thicker. More bottom end to it.

I have the same electrical ground problem at my g.f.'s house

Oddly when I had an Elmwood M90 it was dead quiet.

I'm thinking when Jerry makes the 5150II more open and tighter.... it's gonna be the bomb!

Your right in that thinking.....
Just got done playing tonite with the band....
and that Metal Mod is CRUSHING and Clear!!
Crunch and Lead channel both.
No contest Jim.....you wont look back. ;)

Both sounded cool. I would prefer the VM for leads and 5150 for rhythms. Can't wait to hear what Jerry does with it.

Bill like I mentioned in a post above, the camera didn't pickup a lot of what I heard in the room. The Peavey sounds a little thicker but the Marshall has more teeth in the mids. Hard to describe I guess. Thing is the Peavey is much easier to play fast on. The Marshall is clearer.

Go Pens!

I would like to see you do this one again... emphasizing each amps particular character again. This would really show the difference between the 5150's "pre-amp" gain model; against the "unboosted" but power amp driven character of the VM (Cranked Master-at least @ 5, High Range in, and the detail and body near the mids) I believe that boosting the VM in High range created way to much noise and made it brittle IMO. I do agree though, it was very cool how similar you got the tones for that example.

For that kind of volume I'd have to record this outside of my home. Still for me I much prefer the tone of a boosted Marshall.
