I've bought a used 2061Cx (2x12, handwired) some time ago and was told that it has V30s installed (originally they ship with G12H30).

I was always under the impression that the cab lacked high mids and treble and sounded "flat" (if that makes sense).

Opened it up today (to install a new G12H30 to get rid of that flatness) and to my surprise I discovered those black label Marshall by Celestion speakers.

I could swear that they don't sound like V30s - as the internet tries to tell me . . .

Any experience from you guys?

Thanks.

You are absolutely correct my friend and its what caused me to hate what I thought were V30's until Ralphie took me to school on the subject... Now,I love V30's!!( The real ones, not what Marshall does to them)

Hope you are well mein bruder!!!

Thanks Gary and Kage. So I can still trust my ears :D

All well, Kage. Thanks for asking. We will buy a house in two days . . .

Same experience as Kage! I hated V30's for so long and then i realized it was because i hated the sound of Marshall branded V30's. They sound like a cross between a bad sounding V30 and a G12T-75. IMO.

Real V30's are the shit and they are by far my favorite speaker!! :rawk:

Mine as well, Dan.

Thats why I was so surprised about "a V30s cab" sounded a bit muffled.

But now with the G12H30 its nice again, I will def. replace the other Marshall speaker with a V30s.

Let us know how it goes once you get a regular Vintage 30.

Ironically I own 2 Marshall vintage speakers, one is blown, the other works fine. They came with the Marshall 2556AV cab I bought (which had WGS green berets inside), so I have actually never heard a Marshall Vintage speaker in person, sounds like I should just keep the one that works in the cardboard box. :D

It is more smooth, too smooth in this cab blackba.

I would use them very well hooked to bright amps or so . . .
