Do the inputs need to be jumpered for it to sound good? I played one today and thought it sounded like ass but I didn't have a jumper cable. I was able to turn the boost on, set input 1 up to around 7 or so, and brought the volume down with the attenuator. Set the treble and presence low and mid up, bass about half. It was nothing but treble and nastyness with no bottom at all. The cab was a new Marshall cab, I think it had a 50th anniversary logo on it. I was able to get much better sounds out of a 4 channel JVM they had there. Not sure if I had the YJM set up wrong or not?

Yes, jumpering the channels evens out the tone, more bass etc...
And the volume had to cranked to sound good, at least for me.

Definitely jump the channels just like a Super Lead. This is where you can really affect the overall tone and response of the amp across the EQ spectrum. It would be fairly flat, otherwise.

You might be able to get away with the top left input only if you use an outboard boost with some tone to it. The built-in booster is all treble no bass and I don't know how Yngwie doesn't jump the channels. jumping the channels is best with the built-in booster, IMO.

Another way to get additional bottom end while only using the top left input is simply turning up the Normal channel volume, enen though it's not plugged in. It will add a bit more bottom.

If I'm using the built-in boost I jump the channels, if I use an outboard OD I use a Y-Jack

whats the difference?( never heard of the Y jack method and have no idea what it does or how it is used)

I just played the YJM yesterday for the first time. Definitely jumper the inputs.

There is a slight tonal difference. EJ is a Y-Jacker

In the YJM instructions- Important Booster Note-

If linking the channels, at least one of the inputs must be the normal sensitivity input of channel I if the Booster or Gate are to be used.

Man, you can get some killer tones at any volume level out of a JVM.

The JVM is a great head too with more sound/ gain options.
The difference in the gain is the JVM is preamp gain, the YJM more old school.

For me the way to run the YJM is jumper the inputs, dime both volumes and if using the built-in booster, dime both knobs. Adjust the tones to taste

yeah.. jumpered 1-II to 2-I... both dimed is the way to run the YJM.

<Had one for a period.. really nice amp for a stock marshall.
