the regius 7 is definitely in my "must own someday" list

Exactly this. And probably a regius 6 as well. The only reason I don't have one already is I just can't justify a $4k guitar right now. Yet at the same time I have no problem with them charging $4k. Some of the best instruments I've ever laid hands on, though I've only played them a couple times at NAMM.

Absolute must buy for me, just delaying it until the $$$ doesn't sting quite as much.

I couldn't spend that much for a guitar, but if it's that good then I guess it's worth it. Compare the price for a concert quality cello or violin and $4k is nothing.

The Setius is a bolt-on line and are quite reasonably priced. Here's a back shot. The back is mahogany and the neck, is 5 ply mahogany and maple and something else.

The Regius is where the woodwork goes over the top. You can see the neck trough construction and the 11 ply neck which is insane. A little pricier, but you get what you pay for.

Some of those 11 piece necks look absolutely ridiculous, like ugly Scottish kilts. I get why they are trending so hard right now & all, just don't believe the pricepoint on these is worth all the hype. I played one, thought, okay, fine craftsmanship, but nothing special really & moved on.

It won't suit everyone.

The multiply neck has more to with strength than aesthetics, as they are relatively thin when compared to others. If you believe there is some amount of tone/reaction in neck wood selection or combination, there's that too. The guitars are light and quite resonant and conform well.

As far as price point, look around and see a 1000 different luthers throwing down the same old Strat and Tele bolt-on that came out of fender 60 years ago and charge stupid prices north of 3K. For the same money, I can get something far more interesting to play.

Call Chris Campbell over at Rockbox in San Jose. He can hook you up with Mayones stock at a good discount over published prices. I just got done with him and got confirmation for the last Regius build slot before Mayones shuts down for their summer holiday. This will be for an R6 custom though. He's got 3 more Regius 7's inbound. One is the flame blue jean finish like mine, one is a dirty blue flame, the other emerald green flame.

Lose a string and that guitar would be incredible

Do the Keith Richards thing and loose the top string?
That's a 7-string...but Keith certainly did some cool open tuned riffs on 5 strings ;)

Mayones Custom Shop order in. These guitars kick ass and take names.
