Me thinks I got a pretty good deal: JCM 800 content.

not bad at all, who gives a shit about the tolex, adds character, that should be a great amp, I love my 1981 2204, P.S. I always like how they say stock no mods,, and then you read it has EL34 power tubes in it, these shipped with 6550's, they had to mod it to EL34's but IMO the EL34's sound better then 6550's, and yes my 2204 has EL34's

Nice, thanks for the info man. The amp has probably been passed around a bunch of times I bet - the shop selling it probably doesn't even realize they came stock with 6550s...

I can't wait to crank this thing.

these amps sound best pushing them with a boost or dist pedal

I saw that one earlier today as well  . 100 watt JCM 800's with 6 filter caps sound the best IMO...you made out good Joe! Bring it to Psychodave's house and he'll do a few simple mods to make it sound even better

Cool amp!!!

I add a 10k resistor across the 10k cathode resistor on V1 (to get 5k) and .68uf across V2A. Nothing magical... 2 simple, removable mods that add a lot to the gain, tone and feel. Slap a pedal in front and you have a gain monster.

Might as well take out a speaker jack and add a depth knob, too.

Congrats!!! I saw that one you just bought when I was shopping for mine...

I bought this 1984 JCM 800 2203 just before Christmas on ebay

https://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... TQ:US:1123

I know it only has 5 caps but at least is a 1984 model and very clean with 6550's

It shall be here TODAY!

Wow, that 2203 is clean. The 5 caps is no big deal. The 6550s look like GE's....

Ya the trannies look pretty spanking!

It was so super clean that I had to grab it...

I know the pots are soldered differntly too but I'm not thinking that I will not notice too much differnce

should be at my place today or tomorrow!

i have a 84 2204 with GE 6550 amp sounds unreal. i might be intrested in a trade/sale. i never use it anymore. i have a soldano hot mod i can put in it if anyone is intrested.

Yup another simple mod.... you could even do it like Cameron does by adding a resonance Q knob along with the depth knob.... but I like to use several cabinets, so I usually dont tinker unless it has 4 outputs :D

Kindly requesting on how to install a Q control in conjunction with the depth knob. :)

Thanks dudes! I can't wait to get her. I might be interested in your mods Dave. :)

That's a good price. There's one in Sam Ash in Springfield and they want $1250 for it. I played a DSL 50 while i was there and i walked away impressed with it. The green channel on crunch setting sounded very nice. The red channel was good for leads, it may have sounded a little "ratty" but I'm sure that can be fixed. It also had a good master volume and i could get the volume down low where i need it for my late nights playing without waking anyone up.

I had a DSL 50 over the summer and I really dug that thing. I always considered the DSLs and TSLs inferior until I realized that they are pretty different and the DSL is much better.

I really loved to bust the crunch channel with my BB preamp. The lead was cool, but a bit harsh. Supposedly biasing them properly makes them sound much better.

yep exactly. I have the same 82' 100w version, I've had EL34's in them for years and i also put a tube buffered effects loop to run my echoplex through. Aside from my 74' NMV 50w, this amp just fuckin rules and can shake a building !

Hey Dave!

What are your favorite boosts to use with the 800s? Also, which speakers?

Paige!

I'd defnitely like to do that. I really am a fan of vintage 30s (I know most hate em, but I actually dig the mid hump!), but greenbacks are sometimes too fizzy for the stuff I want to play, and a bit underpowered. (doom/stoner rock)

I've always been intrigued by the 65s...How would you describe them?

I love the Timmy with my JCM800 and Super Leads

Hey Dave,
Is the Timmy and Tim the same sounding pedal just with a boost feature?
