What amp would you suggest, I dont need over the top gain, just looking to move on from this mesa after all. I have a stiletto right now. I am getting more into british sounds lately, but not looking to go marshall or orange

Steve

suhr PT100, I will check some videos out, yeah maybe something a little more affordable, about to buy a house

PT100 has got gain in spades, more than a 5150 and more than your mesa.

why not get a 5150 II? less gain and a voicing you are familiar with?

I might pick up a III at work, I have been thinking about that actually

The Tone King Metropolitan would be worth checking out, as well as the Xits Piper. Morgan Amps makes some great mid-gain amps too.

My buddy has a 900 in great condition $500 sound like a good deal?

Either of the two Splawn heads: Quick Rod or Nitro. Top-Notch.

Get a Bogner Shiva, best mid gain tone can do high gain as well, and has a wonderful clean channel!

If you really need a super high gain channel it might not be for you, and I mean really high gain... I'd look into the PT-100 but knowing that the new version is yet to be released so you might want to wait for it before throwing out 2K+ bucks...

The Marsha by Friedman is a good alternative for those tones as well...

Also check out the Orange Rockerverb

You might look for a used Egnater Mod50. It can be whatever you want it to be. Amazing clean modules, great gain modules, all the way from raw to liquid, to high gain.

Medium to high gain, "I dont need over the top gain". PT100, SLO??

So, if you really want to go that route "medium to high gain w/good cleans" the first amp I thought of was the Shiva. That's it in a nut shell -- and if you're looking to get away from Boogie style gain structures the Shiva couldn't be more in that ballpark.

I agree with the Shiva being a great contender. However I sold my trusty Shiva after 2 years because I wanted an amp that can do 80s hardrock and Metallica kind of stuff, too. (don't want to sound like Metallica, but be able to play that kinda stuff without bass flub).

A few many amps later I arrived at what I wanted. A deep and thick, blooming lead tone like the Shiva but with a great transparency and tightness on low notes, also with good bottom end: The Cornford Mk50. If you get the MkII you got a great clean channel as well.

It's quite rare and unfortunately in the US very expensive, too.

So maybe if I was over there, I'd get an SLO.

Mod50/100 M4 very flexible, 20th xtc, PT100, read the Marsha amp has a great clean and most luv the dirty side of that amp,5150 III.

I took home a shiva for a couple days, the cleans were killer, maybe I need to give the gain channel another try

Friedman Browneye (formally Marsha) with full clean on back...done.

I'm not sure, sorry, because I was just going to recommend an old JCM 800 (single channel). I bought mine specifically for how it sounded when playing clean & just a little bit of gain. And it sounded awesome. I don't care to modify it for high gain at all.
