According to the web and formites all fx should be sold to un-educated people due to the Axe II coming out but poor Pat still holds onto years gone by with that old relic.

I went in to this vid thinking it was going to sound old, cold, and just dated but went away with this thought...............

The RT Librarian of tone

Talk about a tease clip sheesh.

ENCORE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

this is a little more audio from that recording/rig

http://soundcloud.com/mentoneman/carol-ann-od2r-tc-gforce

the really big long delay added to the mix is a tc flashback delay pedal with the ep-3 toneprint, in front of the carol ann head, so it's hitting the dry cab and both g-force'd stereo chorus/verb delay wet cabs for a really deep trippy sound and something i started doing from the time i had the replex--running a fat toneful tape-ish delay into the gforce's cleaner transparent delay and verb for "that" sustained sound.

it's great-- the arion chorus is great watery mood setter and the flashback has that haunting tape decay mood i love. maybe not as rich as the el cap, but uses standard boss power supply and is small and half the price.

i'm not too fond of the tc loop mode though...it is very hard to balance the loop level with the live layer, and the strumm tempo thing is annoying but i put a volume pedal behind it to control stray echoes before i'm ready to unleash it down the line.

The cool thing about the older fx units is that they impart a tone coloration. Up to you if you like that. I love it! Great clip.

thanks boys

it's no zachman shark diver digital jams rack rig or axe II but it'll do.... :D

the landau hybrid pedal/rack rig mentality is something i gained from him and am SOLD on period.

the g's pitch shift is meh--aint no eventide or axe-fx, but at least it has it, and it's better than the intellifex by a mile

the golden ratio chorus...delay/verb combos....mwha!(kissing fingertips) i've even grown to appreciate the drives in it when at first i thought they were useless, but a little here and there help fatten or brighten things.

the axe ultra delays and verbs and pitch algorithms were a cut above the gforce, but the axe didn't play with other amps as well as the gforce...i had a heck of a time with noise/buzz/static with the axe 4CM,
whereas i could put the gforce anywhere...in front of my coyote/peacemaker and the fuchs od100 zach left with me for a while, or in the loop of my eggie, and now after the hotplate line out with the od2r or peacemaker, with killer results. amazing headroom while keeping tight to the input sensitivity of the unit.

man, I haven't dived into the rack stuff at all - I just use a Zoom 505 or a Korg AX1 for delay/chorus using a true bypass box I built - where's the collection plate for my replacements...

one of the toughest things to deal with when i bought the axe-fx was committing to yet one more round with a user manual and programming an unfamiliar and complex rack unit! i could not imagine how many hundreds of hours i've spent with manuals and fx units dissecting their inner menus and trying to become fluent with a new piece of digital audio equipment, to where it starts to feel a bit humanely practical.

i often marvel at how us sound nerds can oogle over a metal box with blinking lights like it's a gorgeous gal

there's a guy on the hri forum who i've been chatting with who designed many of the algorithms in the eventide h8000fw, who is probably the deepest fx rack programming cat you can find outside of cliff/fractal and i'm hoping they collaborate on updates to the axe II because it would be amazing.

That would be interesting.

Regarding my rack.............it is a trainwreck of a mess and one day perhaps I will once and for all finish it.

Wish I lived closer Pat, would love for you to school me on some stuff.

dude your h3000 is nothing to sneeze at...amazing sounds, but alas the manual, the manual.....
although i'm telling you, listening to italo discuss programming ideas on hri has given me a renewed vigor towards delving into the parameters..he makes me feel simultaneously inspired for what he can do and stupid for not knowing a fraction of what he does:D

btw did you fellas see this little ditty my 16 yrd old son whipped out--it's a short video clip of stuff he plays around the house for fun:

don't mind the rat tail mohawk haircut..it's a 16 yr old soccer thing

besides c. ronaldo and messi, this is his youtube hero at the moment-and mine:

anyone else loving the flashback delay around here?

Nothing wrong with the old girl, I´m still rocking my G-Force and there´s no unit in the world I would swap it for. It sounds amazing and is easy to set up.

i don't think it's any coincidence that the axe-fx's menu layout is strikingly similar to the g-force, which has to be one of the best interfaces of it's time. i heard brian swerdferger was involved in the development of the gforce. he's another master i'd love to see join the fractal team!

i do think that the axe-fx has done a better job at recreating the 2290's sound than the gforce, although from time to time i still look for the 2290 in the g (boy the flashback 2290 emulation is sounding pretty decent right off the bat) all in all tc stuff just jumps off the fingertips cleaner and faster. and generally speaking the delays and choruses are great. reverb nice but more transparent than i'd like, and pitch not so hot but available and decent.

but on the flipside i found the axe had more of a sluggishness to it in the feel of the attack of the unit...i don't know if it was converters, input headroom, etc but there was just a little of that latent waxy touch to it that was exacerbated by experimenting with tube preamps and the axe.

i figured dropping a tube pre in front of the axefx or in it's loop would condition the signal in a more favorable way but it got so mushy and slow feeling i bailed on that experiment after three different tube interfaces. glad to see cliff went deep into the tube dynamic--the random aspect of electrons loading and discharging from a valve and the color and feel it brings--and cleaner ins and outs. based on my experimenting i concluded that an internal upgrade solution would be the only answer.

Just so you know if you have not been reading lately and heard of the mass axefx sell off, I am having fun with Pat :D

Shit if I win Lotto Pat will be flown to my place, given a huge amount of cash, and follow the instructions of "Build it" with Fortin and Gainfreak on speed dial.

tis the season for sound in my life

i am in the process of revamping our church sound system. this phase is just adding more amplifiers to balance out some deficiencies left by the last contractor that added speakers to the system but no new amps--just rewired/tapped off of our existing amps and wiring. i racked up an additional 5600 watts today and we're still shy approximately 12,000 watts for an ideal scenario, which would include adding enough power to complete our current speaker needs and support future above balcony speakers, floor subs, and additional stage lip fills, to accommodate larger touring acts system requirements.

...100 watt head...pfffff..talk about girly power :gay:

spent a few hours working out the load calculations today and now have a clear battle plan.
looking forward to the electronic challenges ahead and how the end result will enhance the listening experience, but not relishing the task of pulling several hundred feet of 4 conductor 12 awg speaker wire through 90 degree conduit bends!

for the first time last night I got complaints from the band they couldn't hear me in the monitors clearly

Carol ann od2r

57 on cone edge of tone tubby alnico for dry cab
57 on scumback center in tech 21 PE wet cab

the TT is a little fizzy in the highs so I mic the edge to smooth out
Maybe mic the ceramic next time..?

really loving the flashback delay though!
