Mesa 2x12 or Avatar Contemporary??

I'm debating between these two cabs. I know I will definitely get Vintage 30s in them. The avatar contemporary seems to be their answer to Orange cabs. Has anyone tried one yet? I know they are new, but thought I would check anyway. Any thoughts?? I know Mesas are tried and true, but the avatar is tempting for the price. I dig this color a lot:

Nice bro...

I'm one of those assholes that has to have it new though lol. I wonder how much they are going for nowadays? Me thinks $500 or so new.

I was considering the Orange 2x12 too, but it's hard to justify the price.

The Mesa cabs? They're probably $600 or more knowing what Mesa charges for stuff. Fuck that. I got mine for $375 shipped. Buying used is the only way to go, especially when you're a gear whore and always buy and sell shit. That way you rarely ever lose any money.

Yeah I know what you're saying man. I don't plan on selling this cab though. Also, eBay has been slim pickings lately. :gethim:

Yeah actually...

Just bought the Orange 2x12 a couple of days ago. I should have it on Monday. I read nothing but good reviews on it, so I went with it.

Thanks for the input guys,!

You'll love the Orange. The thing sounds giant, and unlike a lot of other 2x12s it doesn't fart out when you push a hell of a lot of bass through it. Had the bass and the deep all the way up on my Diezel Einstein and no fartiness, just a whole hell of a lot of bass. Enjoy dude.

Thanks man! I'm really excited honestly. It is a bit $$ but in the end I think it will be worth it. I just need a SOLID 2x12 with great bottom end. From the reviews, this seems to be it.

Thanks for the good wishes,

Good choice! I was deciding between the Orange and a Mesa when I was buying a 2x12, but I ended up getting a Mesa Recto 2x12 instead since it was cheaper (used).. let us know how it works out.

I played a horizontal Mesa yesterday in GC with a Mark III. I thought it sounded great, i even liked it better than the 4x12 Recto, that thing is too BOOMY sounding. I always see guys trashing V30's which i don't get, they sound fine in Mesa Cabs. Just ask Andy Timmons.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure the Mesa would have been a great choice too, I just really want to try the Orange out.

I don't know man, I think certain people have expectations for their sounds depending on their musical background. Also, depending on which tone they are chasing. Oftentimes they will say "MAN VINTAGE 30s SUCK SO BAD OMGZZZZ," but honestly it's just preference. Rather than saying they didn't prefer them they will say they suck, flat out lol.

To each his own I guess, but I keep coming back to vintage 30s. I think it's their tight, woody character. Also, I think these are the characteristics that some hate about them, saying they are stiff.

Get over the "used thing" and buy
a cheap used Mesa 2x12!!
You'll love it!
Great cabs!

I've used an Avatar "contemporary" like that. They sound great to me.

Orange cab though, meaning that I bought it new.

For the price I think Avatar would have been the better choice since their contemporary model is pretty much the same as Orange cabs to my knowledge.

But I hope you like your orange.

The question is how much the same they sound? Their Vintage 212 is supposed to be very much like Bogner OS, but is it really? I can get one for less than 300$ around here, but I'm very skeptical about the quality. The problem is I will never know until I run it with my amp heads. Cheap amp heads may reveal not the weakness of the cabinet.
