Here is a fun question... I feel stupid for asking too, so it should be interesting to get responces seeing that I have no pictures to show what Im asking about. Here it goes. I have a pair of mesa 4x12's and they are older... they have straight sides but I think the grille is still slanted, and all I know is that the sides arent angled with the grill if that makes any sence... but if any of you can find a good picture of one of the older mesa 4x12's and tell me what type it is, then it would be MUCH appreciated. Its driving me insane not knowing if its a rectifier, traditional, or oversized cabinet... can someone please help? Thanks.

Well all of the rectifier os straight cabs I have owned had the slanted baffle... I don't think that is enough to identify the cabs. Us the measurement available on the boogie website to check against your cabinet.

Problem is, my Wife wont do that for me and I am stuck in Kuwait... but thanks for trying to help. It does seem like there is a great chance its a rectifier os straight cab though. All I have to go by is memory, and if it serves me correctly then the cab is straight and the baffle IS slanted. Does that pretty much narrow it down to that cab then? Do they make that cab anymore with that design? I found the straight cabs are now straight baffle as well.

They still offer the slant baffle on straight cab option for Rectifier cabinets. I have one in my rig right now. They are just the oversized/rectifier cabs with straight sides and a slant baffle.

you got it

I've never seen a traditional sized slant/straight... only oversized.

Nice... it seems you guys nailed it!!! How do you think these sound compared to the standard cabs?

Well the extra two board feet or so of wood extending out from the top front of the cab do pretty much nothing. Maybe alter the projection of the cab very slightly. These cabs will sound the same as any oversized Mesa cab which is slightly heavier in the bass than a standard size cab.

The whole point of the straight/slant cab is to have a slant baffle on the bottom of a stack where the upward projection might be more effective. If you just have a slant cab on top you're just angling a pair of speakers way over everyone's head. These types of cabs are also helpful if you have a deep rack you put on top of your cabinet and a slant cab might not have enough surface area on top to keep the rack stable.

I think they sound the same as a regular slant but I've never heard them side by side in the same room. The extra space on top is nice.

Here's a pic of my Recto oversized straight side slant baffled 4x12"s

I had a straight and a straight w/ baffle for awhile and they did sound exactly the same. As nice as it was to have a slanted bottom cab in a half stack, more often than not I had them side by side so it didn't really matter anyway.
