Hi there, wherever you are!

Here' a little mic comparison with the Mighty Mesa Boogie Dual Rectifier Rev F + Matching Cab.

Mics used: 1: Shure SM57+Sennheiser MD421
(straight, close micing, 57 inside the cone, 421 directly aside)

2: Shure SM57 + Sennheiser MD906
(same micing technique)

3: Single Shure SM57
(inside cone, 2 cm off the grille-cloth, angled to the cone center)

SM57+421: 0:00
SM57+906: 0:56
Single SM57: 1:51

Which one is your favourite?

Best Regards,
Simon

I'm torn between 1 and 2. I like the deeper sound of the second, but the clarity of the first. Something right in between those sounds would be perfect.

I guess you would need a blend of 57,421,906 then. Never tried that.
What about the third?

I like how wide 1 sounds while still having clarity. 3 would be my second choice and I also liked it. It’s a little more in your face that 1, but has a little fizz. 2 wasn’t bad, but there is always something in the mids of the 906 & 609 mics that I don’t like as much in shootouts. Cool riffage by the way!

It's a little too forward and present for my taste, but I can appreciate the purity of it in comparison to the others. They all sound good in their own way, really. I guess it would be a matter of what best fit the song/vocal mix.

Really liking 2nd one but somewhere in between 1 and 2 would be awesome!
Better question is what are your settings on the Rev F? I have one too and am constantly playing around with it.

Thanks for your replys!
I think the volume was too low.
Next time i need to turn up the amp more. It thickens up the sound, including the mids and reduces the fizz.
I think the single 57 is my favourite. No phase issues. Kinda less is more. Yngwie has a different opinion :D
And maybe a bit more high cut. I had the hpf and lpf at 80+12khz with a bit of compression up to 220hz.
Signal chain and settings:
ESP V-II > Maxon OD9 (Drive-0,Tone-5,Level-5) > Maxon ST9Pro+ (Drive-0, Tone and Mid-Enhance-5, Level-8) > ISP Decimator II > Mesa Modern Red, Bold, Silicone, Pres: 9 o'clock, Bass: 12, Mids: 11, Treble: 11, Gain: 2

Best regards,
Simon
