Mesa Boogie Fans?

Great amps from an innovative company. Boogie has remained one of the best built brands and are fairly priced with no chinese "alternative" line. I respect that. They may catch a lot of shit from some, but amps like the Electra-Dyne are among their best work.

Recently picked up a Tremoverb, in fact the deal started here on RT. I am still in the honeymoon phase, but so far I really like the results. Found a 2x12 vertical recto cab that goes nicely with the head, this may be my gig rig for a while.

Really digging the tones, and I find it to have a nice array of available musical venues - very versatile. USA made, with a great service rep, helped to tip the balance in favor of the Mesa.

I am definitely a Mesa fan

Hi All,

The main reason that I initiated this thread is to determine whether or not there are any true "Mesa Boogie Fans" in this forum (which clearly there are some). Not so much to push for a Mesa Sub Forum....which I agree really doesn't make sense to add to this forum.

Often times I have seen very negative responses toward Mesa Boogie Amps in this forum...more so than most other amp manufacturer's.....of which I have never really understood why? Sure, I realize that the sound of an amp to any individual is a personal thing....me included!

In fact, I have owned and still own some fine amps made by other great manufacturer's (Diezel, Bogner, Marshall, Etc.). Are they great in their own rights? Yes! Are they better? No, at least not for my needs!

I have owned (and still own) so many Mesa Boogie amps it is crazy. What I will say is that my absolute favorite is the Mesa MkV! To be clear....it doesn't exactly cop the sounds of the MkI, IIC+ or MkIV in these modes, but the sounds it offers in all 3 channels are great to me! ;)

Anyway, I am pleased there are others that share my love for Mesa Boogie amps on this forum!

Entirely too much Boogie talk

I am starting to miss my old Crunch and Munch rig

I don't think it's specifically reserved for Mesa. It's just that as a Mesa guy I tend to click on every Mesa thread and see the negativity each and every time. I know from reading the odd Diezel, Marshall and Bogner threads that there's a lot of negativity there too... but I don't see it as much because I only click on the odd thread every now and again.

That, and there's power in numbers.

When 100,000 people have tried one amp and only 1,000 people have tried another it makes a huge difference in the number of people who feel qualified to bitch about it.

There's only a few on here that are "contra-Mesa". Not sure why though. Most of the time here on RT though, you have the peer pressure of agreeing with your clique and jumping on the bandwagon. My only opinion the last few years is they are really venturing out into other manufacturers territory that has already been perfected. Having said that though, I feel sure that Mesa can build an amp of better quality in Petaluma, CA than Marshall can build in Bumphukt, China. Mesa has managed the company well though, and have been able to keep costs reasonable for being made in the USA. They've definitely had their place in the last 30 years of rock history, recordings and live sound. No denying that.

^ If you want to see anti Mesa sentiment from a Forum, just venture over to TGP. A recent thread on Mesa selling tubes got a bit ugly.

One of the main reasons for that, is there are a TON of guys here that are stuck on that 80's hard rock stuff. So, Marshall and everything Marshallish it shall be. Obviously, Mesa is very different. But, there are also a LOT of guys around here that really like Mesa.

On second thought, I wouldn't mind seeing a Mesa forum here, I mean why not, we've got a bunch of odd ball forums anyway like Cameron, Luxtone, Suhr, Carol-Ann, brands some people have never even heard of. I'm sure a Mesa forum would have WAY more traffic than any of those. I change my vote to yes.

I like me some Mesa gear. But I just like good amps.

I'm getting a serious jonesing for a Road King II. Gonna brave the emo punks and venture down to Guitar Center. An easy was to do a 30 day test drive.

Just need the RK to be a bit brighter than the Roadster.

Hating on a brand? Bugera... Patent infringing sweatshop commies...

I wasn't really into Mesa until I saw this video, and heard what Kyle Rhodes of Rhodes Amplification can do to them. I really dig the sound, and now I want to pick one up to send to Rhodes for an adjustment. He is a really nice person to communicate with. Super busy guy, but he is totally into working in someone who is serious about it. His pricing is very fair for doing modifications as well. I'm definitely sending him a Mesa, as soon as I snag one up.
Kinda sounds like a really good boosted Rectifier......

Mesa would have to agree to it and Brad requires a company representative to monitor any manufacturer sub-forum. But, yes it would make for a good forum and drive traffic here.

I know what you mean. From my experiences with boost & OD to any amp is that it accelerates the bass response, and increases the attack, and often the mids. All of this at the cost of the thunderous low end that was present before the boost/od. These videos cannot really capture that very accurately. One thing about what Rhodes did, was added a depth control, which will give you the low end that is often lost after boosting. I always had a love hate relationship with my overdrive pedals. Great for leads, not so great for the chunky rhythms with a thump. But mods like this one changes the game. I like to feel my chest rattle from the low end. Always get a kick out of watching my pants legs move in the sound waves.

Hey,
Is there anybody else besides me that enjoys their Mesa Boogie Amps?

Yeah I do. Not keen on the Recto series, but I love my MarkIV.
