Hi.

First time posting here.

I've got an opportunity to pick up a Mesa Studio Preamp locally for about 600USD, which is a real good bargain for any piece of Mesa gear over here in Sweden.

I'm thinking of patching it through the power amp of my Laney GH50L. First off will this work?, and will it sound any good?

I like the tone of my Laney for alot of stuff, especially the clarity it gives me for faster stuff. But i feel it lacks a bit in the gain and sustain department for slower more fluid leads.

How does the Mesa Preamp(supposedly MK2C+ Preamp) compare gain wise to the Laney?

Best regards.

They currently go for around 300-350 EUR - 600$ is too much as long as it is not the Quad version.

Where would that be?, ebay?

Pickup up stuff locally is quite limited here in Sweden.

Ok, sound like a good deal.

So how does it compare gain wise?
I realize it's an older amp, but do you think it sports more gain then a modern brittish voiced amp?
And will it sound any good through the Lanyes EL34 power section?

With regard to the gain capabilities, I did never miss anything but I do not have any Laney experience for a comparison. Treat the Studio like other mesas with a proper boost and it will do more modern stuff as well. It sounded great in front of my 2550, some brithish flavour from the power amp will work for sure.

Thanks for the info.

Regarding the Laney, it has been compared with a hot rodded jcm800.

I've gotten the impression however that the Mark series are quite abit more gainy then any marshall.
