Mesa Mark IIC+ Clip Comparison

Hey guys, I need your ears. I recorded a cover of You Could Be Mine over the weekend. All the rhythm and leads guitars were recorded with a clean boost. I wasn't particularly happy with the tone. I thought squished and compressed the rhythm guitars. I re-recorded the clip this morning without a boost on any of the guitars. Which do you prefer?

The clip without a boost sounds more open. The rhythm breathes better. What do you guys think?

I'd say the unboosted sounds better.

As sick as your amp usually sounds (you make great clips!) this is another example where Mesa's don't do classic Marshall type crunch very well IMO. That is why one of each is needed for copping total tonal ground

It will never sound like a Marshall. I will just have to get a Fortin!

I do like how the Mark sounds doing anything. Just that kind of guy!

I like the unboosted version better, especially the lead. I think the rhythm is simply too smooth, there's just not enough grind, maybe the other guys are right about that being a Marshall thing. I mean, it sounds really good, just not mean.

I like the unboosted better, the boosted is too compressed for me. I agree with the others that the mark IIC+ just doesn't sound like a marshall. One of the big reasons I have a mark IVA and a Marshaall 2553. Nice playing, BTW

Yeah, a Mesa Mark series will never truly sound like a Marshall (and vice versa). The Mesa is designed after a modded Fender. It's all good.

Thanks! I'm not sure what I like better. I like both for different reasons. It's all good!
