Hey dudes, i've been having problems with my Mark III
When i turn it off it makes a squeaking noise when i turn the amp off after its been on for while, Is the a bad power amp tube, or a bad power supply???
Thanks

How long does the sound last? And does it stay consistent in pitch, or does it oscillate?

It last's for a second or two, Always the same low end kind of squeak

I suspect a discharging bad filter cap. It's a MKIII. Proabably most definitely needs a cap job.

That's what I'm thinking, which is why I asked if its happening when on Standby. Get the caps replaced, for sure. It could use it either way, considering its age.

Does not do it when i put it on stand by, just when i turn the power off!!

Sounds like a cap. I would get them changed. When I had my 93 MKIV I replaced approx. 11 caps cleanly from the topside of the board. I'm pretty sure the MKIII is through holed as well. I'm pretty handy with an iron though. Like Casey said, it needs caps regardless. I would replace mine in 12-15 years on any amp.

Is replacing caps expensive, Freaking unemployment!!
Rob, That sucks. Caps are a little pricey. My Mesa cost me approx. 80 dollars with my doing the job. A tech should charge approx. 150-170 which really is fair considering the labor. I would do it for free for you at the cost of the caps, but then shipping would bring it up to what someone local to you would cost. I like to solder.

Call up Mesa and ask Mike B. what he would charge for a complete re-cap. I'd think he'd give you a bit of a deal. Compare it to local techs.

I know how you feel about cash right now man. I think my Mesa needs new tubes, and I just don't have the cash.
