just wondering for those who have owned/played a purple stripe, how would it compare to the green blue and red stripes in the gain saturation area

from a page ive read it seems that the red blue and green stripes would be the hottest mark 3's

or is it really not a big diff at all........is any mark 3 a good mark 3 ?????

:)

This webpage gives a brief explanation/comparison of the strips. Nifty lil read http://homepage.mac.com/mesaboogie/dot.html

yea thats the page i got all the info from, the purple stripe along with the no or black stripes are supposedly not as gainy as the others from what that page says

just wondering if its really a huge difference in saturation

The black stripe and purple stripe are supposed to be really similar, and comparing my old black stripe to my red stripe, there was really no contest. The red stripe has more and better sounding gain, and easily more saturation and tightness.

i figured this

im sure some people prefer the older marks, but i think they would revise them to sound better not worse

kinda thinking the green stripe is the most modern sounding one

I have always wondered how much of a difference there is between stripes.

Mine is a red.

I know I can tell you theres a difference between a red III and blue Coliseum...but I dont think theyre that much different...youve have to have all variables equal and be in a controlled enviroment to really be accurate in a/bing them...

I have a purple and it has tons of tight usable gain on tap. I have played thru a blue once and I cant say i noticed an obvious difference. But i didnt get to spend a lot of time on the blue.

Red and later there were little changes made to the preamp, the amp in general really. The lead channel of the red and blue stripe really is almost identical in sound and wiring to a iic+. Although I'm sure the boogie board will have you believe differently.
