Hey my dudes! so I thought I was getting a rev B and figured no issues with caps but this seems like a rev A/B and there could be that possibility, I have scoured the internet trying to see what the leaky caps look like to no avail, if any of you mesa experts could help I would greatly appreciate it, here are some pics of the board, looks in perfect shape to me but. Just dont want to end up with some massive repair bill, thank you all in advance!

You should be OK, but I’ll defer to others. I have a transitional A/B and when researching this a few years back found the below on another RigTalk thread. Sprague caps are the issue and the caps in your picture seem to have been made by a company called Illinois Capacitors.

“As a public service clarification for anyone else wondering the same thing I reached out to the factory.
Per Mike B:
"The 8200mf caps are NOT the leaky troubled caps. I have seen a few break loose from the board, but can't recall one that has leaked. The nasty ones were the SPRAGUE 10,000 16 volt."”

The serial number on my amp is IV5860. What’s yours? Mine had the bad caps originally but they were replaced by the previous owner.

Hey thank you for the reply! it does look to me like they are made by Ilinois Serial is 7797. Love this forum for how knowledgeable people are!

My caps blow on my my 3 ++ green . Mike B fixed one and then I got it back then another blew . Is this a problem with Marks?or mark IIIs

Glad to help out - hope you enjoy the amp! They’re awesome
Man they are so killer, I bought the first Mark IV Rev A that hit Daddy's Junky Music in Mass, was my 1st good amp and I played it forever, so happy to have another one!

Thanks for posting/replying this, mine also has those caps and was wondering if they were ok, serial 8849.

The exact same situation happened with me and my old Mesa Mark IIIi red stripe about 10 years ago. I'd say yes, it's very common for the caps to go on these old Marks. I had to request that he change all the caps second time I shipped down there.

I swear to god they do this shit on purpose to get repeat customers. They didn't even fix my early rev B Mesa Mark IV properly, the clean channel literally has no gain at all. Good thing I rarely use cleans.

Mine has a serial very close to that and it had those 10,000 uf 16 volt caps. I ended up spending a grand to get it fixed. They said they leaked all over the board. Funny thing is, when I had a close look at it before shipping it down there, i swear I saw no leaky caps. Still paid the bill, I just wanted my amp back. It's a particularly good sounding Mark IV.

I was under the impression Mike B was going to go over the whole amp and fine tune it . He fixed the cap . Then I got it back and another blew . Dead serious
