Pros and cons. Possibly looking for an anti- Marshall as I got Marshall covered :)

Played the Mk V twice and used to own the 5153. Never bonded with the 5153. Would go for a Mk V or Mk IV without thinking twice.

Depends on what you want to play. The V is obviously far more versatile, but the EVH has better high gain tones IMO. My bro has a V and I have the EVH, so I have plenty of experience with both.

The evh is going to be more compressed across all three channels. I think the Evh does the Brutz better. The mark V is a little more sophisticated sounding. You will spend more time on the mark V tweaking. The evh is one of the easiest amps to dial in. Sound great with or withought a boost. I think the mark V has a nicer clean sound though.

I sold my MKV kept the 5153.

The 5153 does a few excellent tones. The MKV does more mediocre tones. I have a MKIIC and it is much better. Maybe a MKIII or MKIV?

Lots of people like the MKV. Don't mean to slag on it. Just don't like it. Opinions, assholes, etc...

I have a 5153 and have owned several boogies but not the mark v. I have had the 5153 for about 2 months now. The metal tones I get out of it are very good. I don't think the 5153 gets the credit it deserves because it is a newer amp.

I currently own both and love them, but if i had to choose just 1 i would take the mark v.
i like the boogie tone better and the cleans are really nice, its really versatile.

Same experience for me....sold my MKV for the EVH.

Didn't expect you to be interested in either of these amps Carl.

  I'm reading all the replies, thanks guys.

I really don't need another amp, but I could see having a good time with either. The EVH is cheaper but BIG

I have both (a 5150III mini though) and I like both for what they do. If I would have to choose, I'd go for the Mark V.

Sup Carl ,

My take on it is if you really want to get away from the Marshall type vibe, Id go with the Boogie. I still think the 5150 III is still in the Modded Marshall catagory. The gain stages on the Mark are setup differently and the Graphic EQ will keep you busy dialing in new tones for years

With that said, If you winde up with either amp, don't think that you could lose. I know the price on the EVH makes is a hell of a more attractive, that's for sure

When I was looking for a new amy last year, I looked at the Mark V and the 5153. I am a huge Mark IV fan, and have owned several of them. I ended up going with the 5153, as I felt it was easier to get the tones I wanted. I do not care for the Mark V at all. I feel that to get all the "versatility" packed into the amp, they sacrificed tone. If you want the Mark sound, look into a Mark III or IV.

I still have my IV and I admit I've been playing the IV lately and it sounds so good.

Those are two very different amps. If you have Marshall tones covered I'd go with the Boogie.

Wow, seems to be about a dead heat between these 2 amps....
