Any love for the mark 5? I demoed one at my local mesa dealer and at first I thought it was really nice but is seemed like the honeymoon phase wore off in the store. I almost bought it but got cold feet with it. I wonder if I missed something. Seems to be a lot for sale on the used market. The crunch channel seemed way to dark no matter where I had it set. I was running it thru a mesa 4-12 v-30 cab. Opinions?

Get a mark IV, III or IIC+ and you will be way happier

Funny you mention that as the local dealer has a mark 2c+ combo no eq though and it has one the best core tone I have ever heard. I assume a nice boost pedal would get into 80's hard rock territory. If it had a little more gain on tap i would have bought it.

Yea the Eq is a big one get a nice Eq pedal in the loop and a nice clean boost and you will have amazing set up

Its the most organic of the mark series amps but still has the amazing clean tone while still being tight.

Yep. I had a V for about 5-6 weeks, recently unloaded it and sold it for the price I bought it new, however I only lost out on paypal fees :( But I picked up a IVA at a decent price to replace it and pocketed the difference. I wouldn't look back on getting rid of the V, if you are looking for full out Versatility the V probably wins, but in terms of tone the IV and IIC+ probably do a better job, the lead channel on the IV IMO is better than the V in every aspect. I really want to see how a IIC+ sounds but it's hard coming across one with a EQ that doesn't cost a fortune. :aww:

The IIC+/IV mode on the V felt very boxy/nasally/overly compressed sounding to me, I could never get it close to where I have the IV. I got the IV in this morning and was able to dial in my old settings and get the tone I wanted that the V couldn't deliver in just a matter of minutes. I know the V wasn't meant to nail the IV / IIC+ modes 100% but they could have done a better job on it, I tried very had to like the V but I'm glad I unloaded it before I would have lost more money on it. A ton of others have been unloading the V as well. So IMO if you have a IV or IIC+ already you aren't missing anything and hold on to it :)

I would probably pass on the V until they do another revision and hopefully fix the lead channels, all the other channels were great though.

One thing I can say is I got there 100x faster with the IV than with the V   I've owned a few different IV's previously so EQing the way I wanted it didn't take long, seems my old settings still worked like a charm, retubed it and set it to the way I had my old mark iv amps and  .

I'm running 4 Ruby 6L6's at the moment, I usually prefer to run 4 6L6's on the Mark amps but I will probably mess around with the EL34/6L6 combo this weekend, I can't find any spare EL34 pairs though

I didnt like it to be honest the el34 6l6 combo it took out all the attributes that make mark series amp so sweet the liquid smooth tones and the tightness.

This happens to me with all Mesa's!

Just do a search on the Mark V. I'm kinda burnt out talking about how much i didn't like it.

Did you turn volume 1 up to 8 or 9 ? That knob has a lot to do with how much gain the lead channel will get. And the pull deep or pull gain on the master MUST be pulled out.

Yup IIC+'s have more than enough gain

i owned mine for a month and i liked it, once i learned to dial it in i fell inlove and would get really excited to get home from work and play it the first 2 weeks, after that i dont know what happened but each day i didnt like it as much, the mids bothered me in the end and i cant really find the proper words to explain it but i will try, i felt the mids had this cocked wah type sound and i couldnt dial them out and with certain guitars they sounded thin, when i first got the amp i didnt notice it as much because i plkayed the same 2 guitars everyday but once i started switching to other guitars i really noticed it, i thought it was just my error and that it was something that i would learn to dial out butr i never did, in the end i sold it and i looked like a fool because the first week i kept saying it was my favorite amp ever, i also heard some other clips of the mkiv and IIc and they made my amp sound lifeless, i think those amps are more alive sounding. the cleans were great i thought and the crunch ch sounded nice, ch3 in all 3 modes i had some nice tones but the mids bothered me too much for me to keep it.
i think i would love a mkiv and i might get one someday.

Mesa in ruining an old favourite with new design shocker!

Seriously, first the Rectos now the Marks? What's going on? It seems they get the urge to overcomplicate their shit and make it worse sounding into the bargain. My old IIC+ and IV sounded tremendous but I have heard nothing from any Mark V clip that makes me yearn for one.
