Mesa / Marshall Rig

I put this Mesa/Marshall rig together and and it is shit hot, simple and sounds bloody awesome.

Input is into the Mark V which is going to the Mesa Recto cab. Slaving out of it into the FX return of the Gower modded Marshall. The Marshall is running to the HW cab with H30's. With only one input and slaving to the back end of the Marshall, there are no ground loops to mess with or phasing issues to be concerned about. The Mark V is running dry, except for the wah up front and all the wet is being fed to the Marshall.

In the rack is a Furman Power Conditioner, Korg tuner, Dunlop Rack wah, Intellifex, and a GXC. Signal chain is:

Guitar -> Rack wah -> Mark V. The GCX only takes the Intellifex in/out of the signal chain. On the back end, Slave out -> GXC loop in -> Intellifex -> GCX (send/return) -> GCX loop 2 send -> Loop Return of the Marshall. The Intellifex is controlled by the GC Pro and it and the pedal for the rack wah is the only thing on the board.

It is big, wide, and bad ass. The Gower mod has some post-preamp EQ controls to dial up the wet signal from the Mesa. It just sits there and grunts. The Mesa is on the channel 3, IIC+ mode, through the GEQ with the deep smiley settings. Gain 2:00, all other controls about 10:00, including the channel master, and bright on. Main master usually runs about 10:00 as well. The loop on the Mesa is engaged and set about 75% which really gets the Mesa cooking. There is nothing in the loop though. The slave level to the Marshall is about 70% and the FX return on the Marshall about the same. The master on the Marshall about 12:00. The cool thing about the master on the Mark V with is that it will control the overall levels of everything, including the signal to the Marshall.

Some pics. May actually do some clips tomorrow at practice.

Looks very cool ..... Lately I have been trying to get my Fryette & THD amps sounding as much like my Fender, Marshall & Mesa amps as I can. Seems like these are the sounds I always go back too.... the sounds I grew up hearing & using.

Also after messing with all kinds of rigs .... a wet/dry is for me the best way to get what I want.

I see the Mk. V is set to full scoop. Business as usual for SteveK

Nice there Steve. Gotta say you are one of the most helpful cats here.

Nice t-shirt.

I just wonder how many millions of dollars Metallica made for Mesa and opening acts through the years.

My humble rig is the cheap copy of yours. MKIIC into DSL. Nova System in the DSL loop.

Hell yeah....

That's the way a Mesa is supposed to be played. A Mesa Mark is about the only amp a guy can get away with playing scooped and still keep it in the mix. Probably the reason I keep coming back around to Mesa rigs.

Coolness. But how do you deal with those concrete walls?

It's the 4th dimension in sound....

It is a recently converted garage and a work in progress.....like everything else. It is a bit reflective though but serves its purpose as a practice room for the band and for me to go out and noodle around everyday.

No SLO? I crank my mids, so I have no idea how they would sound scooped in a mix

That's a lot of rig just to play in your Nickleback tribute band... :D

Nice set up! :D Definitely want a Mk V

After reading your post on your mesa I pulled mine out of the closet again and set it back up

Very cool rig Steve! I've been wanting to buy a nice power amp for years...always gets put on the back burner though. I'd love to experiment with the slave-out on my mark iv but it sounds so damn good as is that I don't feel too bad about not getting around to it. :) Still, the idea of a W/D or W/D/W rig has had me intrigued for years!

David - everybody knows you are the Tickelsack fanboy :D

The SLO is sitting off to the left. But, I can't use the SLO for what I am up to now. Makes my Metallica covers sound like Ratt.....

I'm not sure I even play anything that heavy anymore. Price of having your gf in the band, lol

What's that RED knob on the Marshall!?!?

.....I need to stick a red knob on one my amps....looks cool! :D

QUESTION: Can you run a line out into a 2204's low input instead of fx loop?

Master? I'm sure it's red so on stage you can see it fast and go...
