Pretty much looking for opinions on them campared to V30's or other Celestion speakers.
Thinking about pulling the V30's out of my 2x12 as they have way to much upper mids for my tastes. I was going to try and put some batting in the cab to tame it and see if I like it that way.

Very neutral sounding speaker. Decent top end, a little bright, can have a little of that celestion spikey-ness going on. Good low end response, pretty tight. Nice even midrange. They take a lot of power without breaking up, too. I run a 2x12 with 2 C90s in it with my Herbert and the speakers take it no problems at band volume. If you're looking for speakers with their own character to them, I don't think C90s are it. If you're looking for something to just reproduce the sound without to much coloration, they're a good choice. All depends on what you're going for I guess.

I have had 2 MC90's in a mesa metal grill halfback 212 and currently have a pair in the top of my Mesa 412 Metal Grill cab.

Since they were alone in the 212 cab I could really hear what they sounded like. They are a pretty thick and warm speaker, good bass and mids. Highs are more rolled off than a CL80 or G12H30. They are a more modern sounding speaker and didn't sound the best with vintage amps. The MC90's I find to be almost too thick. They lack the clarity of a CL80 or G12H30. Had I kept the 212 cab I was going to put a V30 in the bottom for some more cut. From forums it seems most people prefer the MC90's to CL80's, but I actually like the CL80's better. Both are nice speakers and will mix with V30's well.

I agree with this other then liking cl80's better but that is a preferance thing!(I like the Mc90's more then the CL80's but that's just me!!) I highly agree that they don't sound that great with vintage amps. I use them with My Boogie Mark series amps and for my live Axe-FX rig but i will say that they can sound excellent with some amps and like crap with others.(I guess that is true with any speaker ;) )

I just procured 2 original G12-80s. Better than both CL80 + Mc90 IMO. They will rock X patterned with my G1265s (same speaker but with a smaller magnet).

Nice Score!!!!

One of the things I've noticed online is that people say that the MC90 speaker is a modified cl80. I spoke to Mesa boogie and they did confirm that they do in fact mod the regular celestion speaker with extra venting but Im pretty sure its a modded g12h-80 and not the cl80. I opened up my cab and it clearly says on the side g12h-80 and not cl-80. Im not sure why the hell Im writing this though lol :D

Yeah its confusing. MC90 IS a modified G12-80 but not because of the vent as the original has them too. CL80 does not have the vent and sounds most distant from the other two. MC90 is closer to the original but still different as Mesa tweaks it to their own recipe, much like they tweak their V30s. They should make an NBC "The more you know" Saturday morning segment out of this info

I use them in a 2x12 with an Axefx rig...I like 'em cause they're pretty flat and i can dial things in easier with the AF.

I tried mixing one with V30 but the MC90 was waaay louder and overpowered the V30.

Tell me about the 30H for high gain..??

I like the c-90's for country and semi -clean stuff...and use the 30's in other cabs for the more metal type stuff...the 90's seem to go well with a tele or strat....
