One is in my office (16 Ohms). Grabbed it from ebay . . . out of interest.

- what do you think about it?
- should it be paired with a V30s ( I have two 2x12" where I could install it)
- or should I use it in my 1x12" Combo instead?

- and last question (yes, I did some reading before I bought it) - with my limited abilities in mind - would you like to hear a comparison clip between the MC90 and a CL80?

Thanks for your time,

Olaf

Great speaker. Like a v30 with extended lows and highs IMO

Hi Olaf,

I have a Roadking cab with a mix of MC90 and V30's, they sound good together imo.

And yes, I would to like to hear a comparison clip of MC90 and CL80.

V30 all the way!
In that clip?

I have this 2061CX cab loaded with V30 which is super mid focussed. My guess is that some treble and bottom end could help the cab to sound a bit more rounded.

Thanks for your feedback, Daniel.
Will have a listen tonight at home. I can watch YT, but mp3s are blocked here.

Would definitely like to hear a 90/80 comparsion clip.

After all these years of playing, I finally tried an MC90 last year and it's my favorite speaker now.

I liked the MC90 in that clip until the higher gain part, then it sounded like the mic wasn't in the best spot on the MC90.

A comparison with a CL80 would be great to hear.

I thought the MC90 and the CL80 were close to being the same speaker?

I used to love V30s, as they had a very crunchy sound with chuggy bass and punchy mids. But ever since I got a few C90s and used them with my MarkIV, I can't stand the V30s. I tried running a C90 and V30 side by side, and the V30 had this horrid annoying screech in comparison to the rich, complex sound of the C90. The C90 has that top end crunch but they also sound deeper, more thicker and warm, and tend to "pummel" rather than just punch.

I find the MC90 to be too bright unless being used with very compressed high gain. The CL80 is much more even sounding across the spectrum and sounds good on clean, medium and heavy gain (albeit with not a lot of character). I like mixing the CL80 with a greenback. I have a 4x12 with a MC90, a CL80, greenback and G12H30 for recording and I settled a long time ago on the greenie and the CL80. In fact if someone wants a never cranked on MC90 I'd sell it.

FWIW I'm playing a plexi circuit though so it's not an amp that the MC90 gels with I think.

Thanks for your opinions/thoughts gents, much appreciated. :)

I would like to hear the MC90 versus CL80 clip. I have compared them but not in the same Cab. Of the 2, I prefer the CL80 slightly to the MC90. The CL80 seems to be clearer and more even sounding. The MC90 has more character and mids, but is not as clear. Again, I didn't get to do a true AB.

I will say I prefer the MC90 and CL80 in a closed back cab. Neither would be my first choice for an opened back combo or cab.

Wassup Brother O!!

I find the MC90's to be a love hate speaker. Some People love them and others hate them hahahaha! It's like there is no inbetween :)
I use them a lot but It depends on what mood Im in. To my ears they are a very and I mean a Very mid heavy speaker and Id gather that they are voiced that way to handle the Mark series boogs when set for the scooped metal sound. They are one of the few speakers that I know of where you can really scoop an amp and not get washed up. I also think that those speakers have a very unique quality to the sound when they are cranked that remind me a lot of the complexity of old greenbacks. For lack of a better description They give off a particular musky complex sound especially when they are in a front loaded cab. I also believe that those speakers are very SYkes like and I only get the WS/Blue Murder sound when I pair a front loaded MC90 loaded cab with a boogie Mark series. Ive tried the Boogs through many speakers and the MC90's just seem to have that sound dialed in.

On another note and I know this has been said thousands of times and will be said again here. The MC90's are based off of a g12H80 and not the cl80's. I have the stickers still loaded on my MC90's and they say G12h and not cl80. Two different speakers that are voiced completely different in IMHO.

hope this helps brother!
