I found a thread on here about a year ago about the mesa mini rectifier and it was getting good reviews. Its also getting praise over at TGP of all places. Just wanting to know if anyone still has one and what you think of it now after the honeymoon period.

I got my mini recto earlier this year (around March) and I love it. Since Im not playing in a band the dual recto (even a single recto) would be overkill for me. I run mine through a recto 2x12 and it sounds pretty damn good. Even at 25 watts its still loud as hell. It is a bit pricey, but still a great amp IMHO. :2thumbsup:

How well does it do at lower volumes (80dBA and less)? Does the 10Watt setting help make it easier to control volume wise? Also curious what your favorite modes on each of the channels are?

I have one and its great. Channel one pushed is one of the best mid drive sounds, of course channel two just has gain for days. This little sucker really is quite awesome and I own more than a few really nice amps.

I played one a while back and it sounded killer. Great little amp. Hard to justify when you can get a used Rec for less.

I think it does pretty well at lower volumes. Although, I will say that I have had some problems with the 10 watt mode. I actually went through two mini rectos that each had an annoying hum in 10 watt mode that goes away when you kick it up to 25 watt mode (not sure if its a tube problem or if its something else in my rig). However, I have found that on channel 2, going from modern to vintage cuts down on the volume quite a lot. So, when I want to be quieter on channel two, I just kick it up into vintage and it cuts the volume a bit.

I primarily keep the amp on channel two in modern mode which is the typical Mesa recto modern tone. As I said above, vintage mode is not as loud but is still pretty damn ballsy. It almost seems like the vintage mode has a bit more low end thump at lower volumes too. I dont use the clean channel much as I rely on my Hughes and Kettner for clean tones. However, the pushed mode on channel 1 is really nice for a slightly dirty tone. I typically keep channel 1 on the mini recto in pushed mode and go in channel 1 when I still want some dirt, but not crazy channel 2 modern levels of dirt.

Hope this helps.

That's interesting about the noise on the 10Watt mode. My buddy recently got a TA-15 and I noticed some noise on the 5Watt mode on channel one, that totally went away when you flipped it to the 15 or 25Watt settings. It was not unbearable noise, but there, I found it mildly annoying. Not enough to write the amp off or try to suggest my friend return it.

Yea, same here... The hum is annoying, but not annoying enough to write the amp off. Someone on another forum somewhere made a joke that the hum was Mesa's way of telling you that you should really be playing the amp in 25 watt mode anyway.  For me, it sounds awesome in 25 watt mode, so thats where I keep it.
