Here's a wee coparison of my two 2 channel Mesa Boogie Dual Rectifiers.

One is a RevG rackmount (upgraded with Mercury Magnetics transformers), the other one is a RevF

I used the same settings on both amps, except for the presence knob which works differently on the RevG, so I turned it up to 12:30 on the RevG to achieve the same amount of presence as on the RevF with the pres knob on 9:30.

As you can hear there aren't night-day differences, but the RevG is quite a bit warmer and more "lush" and thick sounding while the RevF is tighter with more clarity and bite.

Both were plugged into a Rectifier 4x12 and a Stiletto 4x12 with an sm57 on each of the cabs.

Nice comparison. I own a Rev F racto and it sounds massive. I've owned 7 or 8 rectos (several different revisions) throughout the years and none of them sounded as big.

Cool! Any reason why the RevG had it's transformer upgraded to Mercury Magnetics? Were they faulty? Was it an improvement over the original?

I prefer the rev g. I had an F and a g at the same time and sold the F. This video gives me some reassurance that I made the right choice as I prefer the G in this comparison. I find the G smoother with the highs placed in a more pleasant sounding frequency to my ear. The f has too many mids and fatigues my ear quickly, plus the top is grainy. Thanks for the comparison.
