I m looking to change my single rectifier head for a mark IV combo connected on my fat bottom 2x12 VHT cabinet, wich one have a better distorsion?
i play mostly, megadeth, metallica and BLS stuff...
badly need help cause I m so confused, thanks!

Which is better? All depends on your likes. IMO, I will take a Mark series any day over a recto. Plenty of gain for metal. You should just play both and decide---two totally different beasts.

the distortion seem more tight on the mark IV... thats what i ve found!

Recto's are fizzy but if you turn the presence way down it's a little better. I hate the modern mode on Rectos, vintage is pretty cool.

But, I'll take a MarkIV over a Recto.

i like em all. i think the mark can get meaner though.

keep the recto and blend it with the Mark 4 for extra brutal.

I'm sorry, but is anyone else tired of hearing "brutal" as a meansurement when it comes to amps? Everytime I hear it, I picture a Kerry King wannabe midget with a VERY pointy guitar.

Both are great amps. The Mark IV will have a cleaner tighter gain. The IV will also have more than enough gain to play any type of metal.

As far as brewtal... well, that's gonna be up to your playing.

MarkIV, set it right and you'll be there!

To me, the word "brutal" describes a tone that is immense, really in your face, like a punch right in the chops, very strong, aggressive, seething, evil-sounding, chunky, and TIGHT.

Not loose or rumbly, or a wash of mud & fuzz and buzz.

The Mark IV is capable of so much including metal styles. Here is a clip I did recently that shows off that style:

I have never owned a Recto but almost pulled the trigger on a Road King II. Great amp but I really wanted the Mark IV. i agree with Dnyeo (Dan) above, the vintage setting was great but I thought the modern setting was compressed and mushy. The clarity disappeared on that setting to my ears. Cool amp either way with tons of options.

The Marks can get fizzy as well, it's just that the Recto design is easier to stumble across that depending on settings. Both are great amps and will sound fine as long as someone puts time into getting to know the amp and how to dial it in.

i ve tried a 5150 II today,to be honest,i was surprised maybe the mark IV wont be my only choice to replace my single recto

I've been thinking about a mesa single too lately. I've seen some threads on them and done some research and was quite interested.

However, I am also interested in the peavey 6505. I am stuck in a pickle.

Recto = wall of sound. Huge, wide but not the best note definition

Any Mark = very concentrated, foccussed frequency responce. Not as big or 3-D as the Recto, but pick attack and definition are alot better.

I played Mattacasters (HCAF) single recto, with mids cranked, thru a Marshall cab mixed with v30s and 75s, and it sounded unholy....very kickass. I'm not sure how the Dual or Triples sound, but that single rocked out. He really had it dialed in....not as tight as a Mark, but not as fizzy...meaner sounding.

I was going to post in this thread...but then I opened it and saw it was from last August and that I already had posted.
