Long story short, a jack crapped out on my maxon, i dig in the bag and found an old metal zone thats been drug around for years. Turned the gain off flattened the eq on it. And raised the level to about three quarters. Man that thing has alot of boost!
Boosted the jcm800 for the set, and i gotta say it didnt sound half bad, and was super aggressive sounding. The o ly thing i didnt like was it still has that nasal thing in the mids, almost a little cocked wah thing. Does anyone know of any mods to remove that part of the eq? Or even remove the distortion part of it?
I dont mean to make this an integral part of my rig, i just wanna mess with it and see

Check out Monte Allums. http://www.monteallums.com/pedal_mods.html

I have a ton of nice pedals but the MZ is still one of my favorite distortions. It does have a sort of cocked wah, nasal thing going on, but if set up right it can sound pretty good. I've been wanting to try one of the Monte mods but it's not high on my list of priorities so I never get around to it.

It's fun to mess around with, even if it's not your "regular" tone.

I've clean boosted 800's and a Triple Rectifier with an MT-2 it's super aggressive, you are right the nasal/cocked wah is there the parametric eq section makes for some interesting possibilities as well.

I'm sure you could get it modded to get rid of the frequencies you don't like, I heard the Keeley MT-2 is good but I've never tried one.

Canibal Corpse boosts their Triples with a Keeley moded metal zone and there tone is crushing live.

Yeah, Cannibal Corpse and Crowbar both boost with MT-2's. It makes for a super aggressive sound.

I modded mine years ago. It basically sounds like a less nasal and cleaner sounding MT-2. I don't always use it, but sometimes it is the one thing that will give that sound....

I think I did the Indyguitarist JCM/Boogie mod, with some extra other changes. It was kind of minor. I have done several Keely mods and such, and they always mess with the tone too much. So, I didnt follow any one mod.

There are 2 small caps you remove to remove the nasal-ness. Everything else was just about cleaning up the tone a small bit.
