The are the biggest band on the planet.....period.

Axe FX for the summer Euro festival tour.

Who the fuck is MOGWAI?

Axefx?? Are they trying to save money?? I don't think so..

Axe Fx rigs sounds really good! No need for lugging those large racks around

Right. Thats why you have 7 grand worth in tube amps as your avatar..

I think the axe fx are just for their warm up sessions. Pretty sure they don't use it for the stage. Especially seeing that Kirk hammett just got a new Randall signature head designed by Fortin.

I just love that the, by request, set list is virtually identical to what they would play anyway. Who the fuck would request Enter Sandman?

That intro video before the show starts was pretty fucking awkward….. :)

I've been on a real Met kick lately on jamming' at home. Trying to get my right hand back from years of classic rock shenanigans. I find the hardest part about the fast alternate rhythm stuff is nailing the very beginning of getting back into a section. I rarely start it clean. Takes a few bars to lock in.

I saw a recent YouTube interview with Jame's tech and he said they are using Axe Fx only live these days. Cuts down on freight costs and has a consistent sound venue to venue.
Not sure about Kirk's rig. I know all 3 use the Axe in the warm up room before the show. Either way it sounds good.

Nope, Metallica uses 100 % Axe-Fx II live for all guitars and bass sounds. Fractal Audio just confirmed this. :rawk:

Touche!

That hi-hat just does my nut in.

But you can't disagree with their popularity. Thumbs up for keeping that alive.

The Axe Fx in this concert sounds as good or better than any tube could, but with the added benefit of being 100% consistent from show to show. Metallica has all the money in the world. If the tones & feel weren't there they wouldn't use it.

Tube amps are amazing & I love them as much as my digital stuff, but they will become a thing of the past for touring & recording for most people in the not too distant future for sure. Just will not be necessary & will actually be too limiting & cumbersome.

Well, I stand corrected. Axe fx it is then. Thanks everyone for the links.

I did notice that hetfield's tone was tighter in the lows in the recent rock am ring concert and didn't have that low mid bloat it used to have, for example in the 2009 Mexico City shows. The bass overall seems much more controlled. I am glad this setup will allow them to play more shows due to lowered shipping costs, per Chad's (Hetfield's tech) post. I never though that shipping these tube amps was so significant a cost, compared to say, shipping lighting rigs, stage props, taking private planes, staff salaries and transporation, etc. I must admit that I did not hear any "digitalness" in the sound and would have been/was fooled into thinking these were tube amps.

that said, i little part of me died with these news. end of an era... Glad I was at the last show where they used tube amps, The Apollo theater in NYC.

Saw them yesterday at Pinkpop, awesome show!

Massive thunderstorm prior to Metallica, after Avenged Sevenfold, so Metallica was about an hour and a half delayed, but still could play the entire set.
Third time I've seen them play live now, such awesome performance!

Link to FAS about the rigs. Both techs chime in as well: http://forum.fractalaudio.com/axe-fx-ii ... stage.html

I never thought they would it but i understand why they changed.

And yes, it is the Epiphone. Matt Heafy also mentioned it on Facebook.
