Amebix "Sonic Mass." Incredible album that creates a really cool vibe. It fits what you're describing for sure. Definitely check it out.

Personally, I think Grave has a great voice and he was the perfect replacement singer for the Misfits but I think Danzig was better in his day. Nowaday's I think Graves is actually probably better. Danzig has lost a lot on his vocals.

It's so weird to see Amebix mentioned here.

The op asked about other bands in the last half of his post.

I meant that it's not common to see oldschool crust bands talked about here, usually it's '80s music or modern metal, not often someone mentioned something like Amebix, even when the subject of punk gets brought up. I really liked that new album despite it's criticisms, very different from their old material, but I would probably have been less interested if they tried to sound like they did back 30s year ago.

I played for years in a crust band. I love Amebix!

This is still so much heavier than most metal bands around today.

  I guess I misunderstood your post.

I ran across Amebix for the first time when I read a review of Sonic Mass. It sounded interesting, so I decided to check out a tune on youtube. I couldn't pull myself away and ended up listening to whole album. I went out and bought the cd the next day.

Check out AFI's "Art of Drowning" and "Black Sails in the Sunset". Describes what you are talking about, and actually the guitars get pretty complex considering they play only a supporting role. Besides that, I think the band was heavily influenced by the Misfits at the time those albums were made.

Weird to see Mike mentioned on a guitar gear msg board. Sometimes I really miss these days and playing this style.

How could anyone compare graves era misfits to Danzig in all seriousness? Although graves did a good job and turned a whole new generation on to misfits stuff, there's no comparison to the original era. Not only was glens voice unique but he is all around talented. He wrote all the lyrics, music, everything pretty much. He can play guitar, bass, drums etc. At that time there was nothing like misfits really especially in USA . That being said I saw the first show on the misfits reunion with graves I am guessing 96? I met those guys a few times and they were pretty cool. Samhain were another great example of glens talents and just a great band, if u like old misfits stuff check out Samhain.
