Yeah I´m looking for a midi footswitch for my Herbert, the Columbus is a little too pricey right now since I just ordered a new Diezel FL4x12 :D

So wich are compatible and work the best?

Nobels MF1 or MF2. Runs off phantom power.

Are they reliable? They look kinda "cheap" and easy to brake...any experience?
Does ENGL´s footswitches work? I know they do with the VH4 if you modify them...

The are reliable - even Peter owns a MF1 ;)

Yes, Engl works too - although you need to solder one wire from PIN 3 to 1 or 5 (don't remember). The difference between the VH4 and Herbert is: in a VH4 you have access to the midi jack (PTP), while Herbert has a PCB-midi design - and since all Engl stuff is PCB anyway, there's no easy way to modify the Engl pedal itself easily. You could still solder yorself an adaptor of course . . .

I picked up a Behringer FCB1010 for $65 on ebay that works great. Decent (though not great) build quality and if you're can use a soldering iron, there's a very simple mod to make it run on phantom power. I've been very happy with it, especially for the price.

If you just want a midi pedal to switch channels that's phantom powered at a very low price and follow your rack effects (if you so desire) then you can begin with the RFX MP128 MIDIBuddy Foot Controller for MIDI Effects. I have one as a backup, but I use a FCB1010 but the only problem is that I don’t support phantom power.

the tech 21 Midi Moose is $100, 5 on the floor in front of you and runs on a 9 volt! I used one until I got my Columbus.

I don´t really get it...totally new to the world of midi footswitches. What do I have to do to get the ENGL to work with my Herbert and without powersuply?
