I have a TC Electronics GMajor, Rocktron Midi Octopus, and Ground Control (old one pre Voodoo labs) note: The gmajor is relay switching channels on my Engl e530 preamp.

Is there a way to tell the GMajor to ignore a command from my ground control?

Explaination
I have a stomp box that can be turned on via midi control using the Midi Octopus. I would Like to setup my Ground Control to use button 9 to turn on/off this pedal without changing anything else so that I can use it on my clean or dirty channels and without altering the effects currently in use from the gmajor.

I believe what needs to be done is to have the gmajor ignore any command when button 9 is pressed. Then somehow setup the ground control to toggle the on/off command. If you have had any sucess with this type of thing I can really use your help.

Thanks!

I think what you have to do is program each MIDI unit to recieve commands on different channels from the Ground Control. Not exactly sure about the step-by-step, but that's the jist of it.

This.

Also I'm assuming you have the instant access controls disabled? So all buttons act as a preset? You can change any button on the GC to do CC messages, so when you press it, it doesn't change the preset but just sends the command to turn on/off a function. You should probably also take omni off and use different channels for each device you have. Take a look at the ground control pro manual, it should help you do everything you need to do.

I have not purposely disabled instant access control but I may have accidentally. :bash: I am also pretty sure (99%) I am just using omni. Right now my rig is setup to do the the following: when 1 is pressed on the foot controller then the Gmajor user bank 1 is selected and the same is true with the Midi Octopus preset 1 is selected, When 2 is selected in the FC the user preset 2 is select on both devices, ETC. I am sorry but I am MIDI idiot but I am excited to try again now that I have a bit more info. I will download the pro manual. I did not know of midi channels until now. What is instant access? Thanks!

The Ground Control can be set up in two different ways:

1. All buttons are preset recall
2. 4 preset recall buttons and 8 instant access switches

You need to put the Ground Control into mode 2, then assign one of the instant access switches to the stomp on/off. What you will need to do is the following:

To select the 4 preset/bank option, enter Setup mode by pressing both [SETUP MODE] buttons at the same time, then press [UTILITY], followed by [SELECT <down arrow>].

Press +/Yes to select 4/PRST/Bank

Now buttons 1-4 will recall presets and the rest will be instant access switches. Now you need to know what channel your MIDI Octopus listens on and which CC message controls which loop on the MIDI Octopus.

Example:

I'm using a GCX controller (Equivalent of your MIDI Octopus) to perform momentary switching on my Marshall Vintage Modern head. So, I set up my foot controller for switch 11 to be a momentary switch (required by the Marshall) and to send on MIDI channel 16 (what the GCX receives on) and controller #83 (the corresponding controller for GCX loop #5).

You'll need the MIDI documentation on the MIDI Octopus so you can program your Ground Control Pro accordingly.

Hope this helps,

"instant access" mode is mainly for use with a GCX. It makes the bottom 4 bottoms the preset buttons that you can bank up and down, and the top 8 buttons enabled/disable each of the 8 loops on the GCX. However since you don't have a GCX, you can change those buttons to send out CC messages to turn on/off certain functions. Not sure if the Midi Octopus takes CC messages so a way to do what you want is to assign specific channels to each device. So if you hit "Preset 1" you can have it change presets on one device, while keeping one other device on the same preset. Once you read the manual you should get a overall better understanding of how that controller works.

It's been awhile since I owned the GCP but it worked really well when I did. My rack used to be a ENGL E570, GCX, Decimator, G-Force and a VHT 2/50/2. I have since replaced my rack with just a g-system doing 4cable going into a head.
