I had this tacked on to the tail end of another post and I didn't get any responses (it was only yesterday just the same, but posts move so fast here it is already on page 3!) so I made it a new topic. This should be the place to get an answer to this question so I'm hoping I will get responses.

One of my good friends just gave me a Rockman Octopus to switch my CAE 3+ SE. I was extremely excited because I only had a single switch at the time, and was only switching between 2 channels, 1 & 2 or 1 & 3, and not using the active EQ. I set the Octopus up with my ADA MIDI footpedal and was fairly disappointed. I am noticing a small "pause", for lack of a better word (maybe you guys have a word already coined for this), when I switch channels. You could live with it but it really bothers me. I don't remember a pause using the mechanical switch.

I bought a Sound Sculpture MIDI Crosspatch MC-8 back in 1990 for $600 and the F'in thing never made it to the stage because of a LARGE pause in the sound between patches (I've heard that the newer ones don't do this......I wonder how many of us paid to fund that R&D). Is this inherent to switching with MIDI?

I've been tempted to buy the RJM Effects Gizmo, I can deal with ground loops, but I can't take this pause.

Does anybody have a switcher that gives an instantaneous result?

If your using just the midi pedal to the switcher to the amp, I don't know  . If your using midi FX too, check your not re-transmitting the midi PG number and use midi thru.

I used an Octopus for years and had the same problem with pause/latency/retard after changing patches on my midi effects, channels on my amp, or bypassing/boosting my rack overdrive. You may want to look into RJM, Axxes-Electronics, etc.

In that case, I'd recommend the RJM Amp Gizmo. Great piece of gear with instant switching, very quick and easy to set up - had mine for a couple of years now with no problems.

I switch my JVM with an original Ground Control and have a slight lag as well. It is not the pedal though, it is the relays in the amp, I think. Not sure if there is anything that can be done about it other than changing the switching relays.

Thanks for the suggestions guys. I'm going to check the CAE with my mechanical switch again to make sure that the cause of the gap is the Octopus.

The Effects Gizmo looks like something that I would be interested in. Can anybody confirm a lack of latency on these?

+1, go with RJM. Ron's got the mini amp gizmo out now. It's very affordable plus he supports his products 100%.
