Hey guys...was wondering how differrent or what the difference is between the two... besides the obvious watts. I have heard the 100 is heavier(how much?) but then thats the extent of it all. I will probably leave this one in hte studio for now...I like the idea of 3 channels but hittng the 100 watt sweet spot re: pushing the power section can be too loud for now...is there a wattage cut or is pulling tubes the way to go here?

I have the 50. Here are my reasons:

1) I came from a really loud 100 Watt amp and quite frankly, 100 watts is just too much power. I dont need it. Im not playing the Garden so its totally unnecessary. 50 Watts for me is just perfect. I usually run the master at 3 oclock so I get killer, killer tones since I can actually work the power section for a change!

2) Its smaller and lighter

3) I just dont NEED 6 channels at once. In the past I always got by with 2 (God Forbid!) and the MOD 50 gives me 4. Thats PLENTY and I can get all the tones I need for pretty much anything with 2 modules.

4) MOD 50 is a steal at $2000 and the 100 is almost $3000 I think.

5) MOD 50 has a low power switch which puts it down to about 10 watts. Just awesome for when you want to really work the power section and/or have a soundman who wants you to play at a whisper stage volume

Either way you win, but for me the 50 is just about as perfect as any head gets.

I tried both the 50 and 100......I own the MOD100. I personally like having 6 channels with a master volume that works very well.....and I really like the extra headroom of the 100......the difference between the two to me is really more of a feel thing and not so much a tremendous difference in power.....try them both and make your own call......

I got the Mod50 because Egnaters are hard to come by and this was the first one I could get my hands on :)

Well trying either one of them is impossible!!!! They cant be found so that ends that idea right away. LOL this is an impossible wait to get my hands on this amp ...I have a mesa Mark 1 that I scowl at everytime I walk by it... If it made toat I still wouldn't plug it in. So I get my pod xt which is boring as hell...unless someone has some good patches... Oh well the wait had better be worth it. Funny thing...having ordered mine a week ago...the mods I first considered are morphing into other ideas...hmmm I think Id really like the sl2.. t/d thing rather than the vx/eg5. I am still looking for someones recommendation of good sounding clips ...someone who owns the mods that says the recording value is spot on. The ones I've heard I am greatful for but the mic on a video camera might not be all that transparent re: eq. Oh well... hmmm still waiting for that damn amp.

And the MOD50 only weighs about 35lbs.,thats about half the weight and all the tone

If you are the tube experimentation type, with the MOD100 you can mix different pairs of octal types, i.e. 6L6/EL34, KT88/EL34 etc... I've been trying some of these blends lately and have really been able to shape my tone however I like. MOD100 also allows you to bias each tube individually whereas with the MOD50 you have to buy and bias matched pairs. There is almost no difference in sound level between 50 and 100 watts and I think what matters even more is how effective the master volume is. With both amps you get one of the best MVs in the business so power level shouldn't be a deciding factor for you. The key decision points are price, weight, tube blending, number of channels and possibly feel, since I have heard that the MOD 50 is a bit saggier.

MOD100 is 75 pounds, a heavy beast, but man you gotta see the size of the transformer! You can pull 2 tubes on it if you like, but I am a basement player and I have never needed to do that because of how effective the MV is.

Don't think you could go wrong with either.

My MOD100 is going NOWHERE!

Bought a new MOD100 after selling my MOD50. Actually ordered my MOD100 and then sold the MOD50 just before it was finished. Took about 5 months to get. Worth every cent and worth the wait. Tube switching is a big +++ as is having 3 modules over 2.

Negatives on the MOD100 are:

Big and heavy - especially when you put it in a case, and loud which is why lately I have been running it with only 2 output tubes. The real reason why I bought the 100 was the third module slot. The tube mixing thing is a bonus I was unaware of until last week.

I am VERY happy with my purchase and the Egnater staff is extremely helpful and great to deal with.

I've always liked the 100 watt heads for the extra headroom. With the Egnaters though, there isn't much of a difference in volume or sound pressure, only in the feel.
The MOD 50 I played did have a little more sag and was maybe a bit darker sounding overall.I really dig the MOD 50( and would own one if I could convince the wife I needed itl, but like the others have said, the extra 2 channels is very nice as is the Tube flexibility.
I've been running 2 E34L's and 2 6V6 and the results are fantastic. Can't do that kind of stuff on the MOD 50 unfortunately, but you do get the low power switch which the 100 does not have.
Either way you cannot go wrong!

so could you run 4 different power tubes in the mod 100?

i see bias pots for each of the power tubes
