A few months ago I bought a 2000 Marshall JCM 2000. It needed a cap job and some TLC. I was "solder-shamed" on this forum so I man-ed-up, did some reading and research and got busy. It ended up being so much fun and such a cool learning experience. First I changed all the caps on the main board. Then I did some minor things that are recommended mods for DSLs. I then added a Hammond choke, swapped out the stock OT for a Classictone and lastly, did a "Fortin" modded that was discussed on this forum a few years ago.

IMO, it turned out so good and wanted to mention it here but also wanted to include a clip. So for now, here is a down and dirty 2 minute thing that I just did with a Tascam DR-07 sitting on my desk about 6-8 feet from the cab.

I used the guitar I built myself back in 2005 with a mahogany body, flamed top and a Dimarzio Steve's Special in the bridge. It has .010s on it now because I'm trying to strengthen my hands a bit. I usually use 9's. Honestly, I think I'll go back to 9's on this one. My girly-hands can't take it.

As for the amp, presence is 6, treble 8, mids 6, bass 5, deep switch in, tone shift out, Lead 2. Gain is at 5. Volume is at 1. I'm running the amp through a Bogner Uberkab with the stock speakers. It's a front-loaded cab. Guitar is straight in with nothing in front and a TC Flashback in the loop on the 2290 setting.

I do suck at recording and of course, the amp sounds better to me in the room but I think you can still get the idea in terms of how the mods have effected a stock DSL.

Sounded killer.... Love marshals.... Only way to roll...

Sounds pretty killer to me !
Nice playing !!
You do a nice job on the vh riffs of capturing the swagger to the riffs !

Sounded killer. Hopefully I'll get my parts ordered to mod mine this week.

Sounds pretty good man! Was the stock tranny a Drake, and if so do you still have it?

Sounds great!

How about a clip with some heavier rhythm playing just for funsies?

Coming up. I have a Kiesel Vader 7 for that. Also want to do some more clips with my Suhrs. I'll try to turn it up a bit and maybe play with the positioning of the DR-07. Ultimately, I want to put it through my Suhr Reactive load and see what it sounds like with some good IRs.

Thanks guys.

Dave

Sounds awesome. I've got a bone stock JCM2000 DSL 100 that I absolutely love myself. Sounds as good as/if not better than other Marshall clones 5x the price...no shit.

++++ 1, great amp. :thumbsup:

I use Lead #1 on the red channel, gain on "4" with & without pedal, plenty of gain.

When I started modding and then did surgery on the main board, I ended up buying a replacement board in case I torched it. I wanted the option to go back to stock if necessary. Now that I've modded the input board, I'll probably pick up a backup for that too.

That sounds awesome Dave! Sometimes I forget what a great player you are!!

Chad, I can't even begin to tell you how much I appreciate that.

I've got my hands full with my nephew's wedding this Friday. Hopefully, I'll have time to use my Suhr Reactive Load this weekend to get some better recordings done.

PS

Haven't seen many vids from you lately. Always love your stuff. Hope all is well!

Nice clip man, sounded great!

I have a TSL601, and I've been wanting to ad a choke and a few mods for bigger, tighter lows/lowmids, for more growl.
