i just acquired one of these and I think it's a pre 2004. I am debating having the red channel modded to post 2004 or the cameron mod. Anyone have any experience? Reasons not to do it?

Thanks

Grab a Marvel Mod, and have all three.

I actually like the pre 2004 gain better, so I probably wouldn't bother.

Leave it stock. Post 2004 on the Red Channel makes it more compressed. You're not missing a thing....I've had about 7 different Ecstasy's and the Pre 2004's always sound better to me.

Thanks

If I deciphered the serial code correctly, it's 176

If you can do this and have all of the above then why not?

If it was me and I could engage and disengage a mod I would be all for it. If there was a mod that you can not undo with the flick of a switch I would be hesitant.

Also if you know you are going to resell someday that would be a good reason not to mod.

But if you plan to keep it and can toggle the mod on and off I see no problems with it.

It's one of those amps that sound great but I wouldn't be opposed to selling. I still prefer my 20th anniversary shiva to it.

+1 grab the marvel mod kit, you get all three, I have talked to a few guys who think the Cameron modded red channel blows the others away, and I have talked to guys who like the post 2004 better and the pre 2004, but at least you will get all three!!

He's not going to hurt the value of the amp by throwing in the Marvel Mod.

Hell, someone may even pay more for the thing; in my particular case, I like the pre 04 sound just fine, so I wouldn't bother modding.

Nothing to do with future resale, just not enough of a benefit, for me personally.

I'd stick with the pre 2004 if it was me. Had the Cameron mod on mine and it was kinda cool...better than the post 2004 I thought.

Steve, dont bother. Ive had 6 XTC's including # 13 Ive done the Marvel mod on 2 I just did'nt care for them. I liked stock on the older ones but Brian BFG modded a couple that were outstanding sounding. He knows that amp well.

absolutely do the mod, if you have the skills and you want cool other options that will expand the possibilities of the amp.

i use the post-2004 sound a lot for metal, because the low end is tighter; i just dial the Gain down. then i switch back to the pre-2004 for other things. the mod was a selling point on my amp when i bought it--saved me the trouble of doing it myself. :)
