Hi guys, I have been considering this amp for YEARS. Does / did anyone have any experience with it?? It sounds like it does a great modded Marshall tone with the "rippin" mid thing I like. Does it need pedals to push it to the heavy 80's metal sounds? Any input would be great, you dont really see/ hear to much about these amps anymore. THANKS !

That amp is all about power tube overdrive!! Like the sound of a plexi maxed out, this amp will deliver it in spades. But you have to crank it.

I figured it had to be cranked pretty good, but at band volume will it get a Ratt/Dokken 'ish kinda tone without a boost? The clips I have heard seem like it does but I have not talked to anyone who has actually owned one. How would it compare to say a Cornford mk50???

It is a Marshall Super Lead style amp, pure and simple - there is nothing that sounds like a "modded Marshall" in it. If you want 80s metal, you need pedals for sure. Most of the clips in my sig are the Mojave PeaceMaker and I owned one for a number of years. I still own 2 Mojave 4x12s that are KILLER!

If I hadn't decided to build my own amp that covers the Super Lead tone (and much more), I'd still own it. To get "the goods" with the PeaceMaker, it has to be cranked UNGODLY loud as it is a NMV amp. You NEED an attenuator - the "power dampening" doesn't bring the volume down enough or sound pleasing enough to use fully - I'd recommend replacing the power dampening with a LarMar PPIMV, but that is my preference - some prefer attenuators...

Check out some of my clips in the link in my sig that specifiy they are the PeaceMaker - I think they fairly represent what the amp sounds like... They are a great deal on the used market - I've seen them for $1500 or less in great condition. The amp is build like a tank and the hand wiring is a work of art if that twirls your beenie...

It is a GREAT amp, but it doesn't sound like what you are looking for to me. It is more classic rock, early Van Halen than 80s... although you can get there with a boost - I just think there are better (and cheaper) ways to get the 80s tones you seek...

It ain't gonna get that tone at ANY volume without a boost and frankly, you'd be better off with a JCM800 and a boost if you are looking for Ratt/Dokken. And in my opinion, to get a killer PeaceMaker tone at "band volume", you need some form of attenuation besides what comes stock unless your band plays football stadiums.  The PeaceMaker is like a cranked Super Lead - it doesn't have that kind of 80s gain...

Those clips sounded amazing Sah! was there any boosts involved? Even though the Peacemaker may not be what I;m lookin for in the gain territory, it still sounds great. My only issue is that I have zero experience with attenuaters lol

Didn't you get a PPIMV installed in that thing before you let it go?

Yeah, I did, but I also had the whole front end converted to 2203 spec... At that point, it was a different beast...

Thanks man - here is a run down on the boosting of my PeaceMaker clips:

HCAF Metal Jam from '05 - I played the solo only, boosted with an original hand-wired Time Machine boost
Ed's Fusion Jazz Jam I - I played the solo only, not boosted
"Dance Of The Dead" Solo Section II - I played all guitars, not boosted
Ed's Fusion Jazz Jam II - I played the solo only, boosted with an original hand-wired Time Machine boost
Wing Solo - I played the solo only, not boosted
"Dance Of The Dead" Solo Section I - I played all guitars, not boosted
Lazy Rock Jam - I played the solo only, boosted with an OCD

Attenuators are really easy to use man... It's just whether you think they sound good or not. I prefer the LarMar PPMIV (post phase inverter master volume), but others will call me a deaf moron for that and say a quality attenuator like the Aracom or Faustine is the only way to go... I'll tell ya one thing - a LarMar PPIMV will cost ya $15 in parts and 2 hours of tech time (or if ya do it yourself, free!  ) vs. $700 for an Aracom. Also, I think the THD HotPlate, which is way cheaper is fine...

Steve

Best tone ever
I love it all the way up for recording
I've had it for a year and a half now
For gigging you gotta use a hot plate + the power dampening
mix the 2 for best results prob

I haven't quite figured out other settings to use and different pedals to use

it sounds so amazing, just straight in, turned up loud

It sounds great clean and mid gain too
only dilemma I have is that if I set it to clean and use pedals, I miss it's natural tone so much

You'll prob need a dist pedal and a boost to get into
ratt rhythm and lead sounds

It is in my experience the fattest and purest rock tone I've ever heard from an amp
it has ruined me for that sound from any other amp

not high gain like cameron but basically as much gain as you can have while retaining max clarity and headroom.

but the treble volume needs to be up at 7 or higher

and that my friend is Loud without attenuation
