HAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!
That might be what you can call a "blatant ripoff" :D

Poor Gary :aww:

The funny thing is that the band recorded the song in 1974 - and the album was published in 2000 (!) :D

Then (in 2000) the wife of the bassman noticed that there were similarities between the two songs and they sued Virgin Records.

Unbelieveable :D

LOL, they needed some time to get their heads around, then :D

Thats the really interesting part: the song had been played several times on the radio in 74 when Moore was in germany on the road with Lizzy. So he could have heard the song (although he denies of course).
But even if he had never heard it: copyright is copyright, so either him (I ddon't think so) or Virgin (my guess) has to pay huge amounts. In germany alone the song was sold 3 million times and is on 14 samplers and the multi-million selling SGTB album of course.

I guess the bassman never needs to work again . . .

Moore said in an interview (summer this year, where he was close to the city of Nordrach - LOL), that he gave all the money he got from that album and song to his ex-wife when they were divorced :D

Does Moore have the blues now literally, maybe he will pen a new tune out of this.

at least they don't blame Moore. i mean, if they would say he heard the melody back then, memorized it and waited 16 years to release the song and rip off the original THAT would be out of space.

what's incredible is how the music industry and the whole world functions.....

in this case is Moore, a well known and respected musician, so the shit hits the fan but no one barely gets any on them............whereas if it where a less known or respected musician, the press/music peers/ the world would be on top of him and could pretty much kiss his career goodbye.

I have to have a listen what I sang onto this when I was a kid - maybe I'm lucky :D

I think the circumstances are such that, with that big a lag from when it was copywritten and when it was actually released, nobody would fault GM on this one.

Gary did nothing wrong. He's a legend. Nothing to see here.......
