Okay first up forgive me for I have sinned... I went from a Diezel Einstein to an Axe Fx II but now I want to return back to Diezel - why, well I miss the 'real' Diezel tone and I'm about to head off out gigging again as well has hacking around at home.

I was thinking of getting another Einstein head as I just loved the Texas Crunch channel and the Plexi type tones I could get out of the Einstein. However, although I still need a lush 'vintage' type plexi crunch for when I play out - I love to play heavy tight dropped rhythm metal guitar at home. This made me immediately think I need to go VH4 - the archetypal Diezel tone. I've played a VH4 and couldn't get a bad tone out it.

BUT.... I've been looking into the newer Hagen. I guess this amp is voiced more 'modern' and will offer a tighter tone more suited for my heavier material, but I've also seen posters say the Hagen can get a lush vintage crunch tone AND has one of the best cleans out of the Diezel range.

So, for an idea of the tones I need for when I gig... from Albert King to Angus Young; from Doug Aldrich to Mark Morton.

So which Diezel do you think best fits my needs?

Herbert can do the "vintage" tones with ease with the mid-cut off. Then of course there's drop tuned metal that it just excels in.

Clean on Ch.1 of the Hagen is heaven sent.
Crunchy Texan style blues is Ch.2 - it can do it in spades...

The Hagen is NOT the metal-only machine it's often made out to be. I see it more like a refined VH4 - it still offers incredibly tight and percussive play, but with a slight change in hand, it get this loose, greasy, raunchiness going on. It's a stellar amp - and I think it goes SO beyond 'just metal' and honestly, I think the Herbert would probably still be the metal god, or maybe the VH4. The Hagen's got range, man...lots of range.

Just my 2 cents.

Are they gonna start playing in pubs?????

When I think about Qotsa sound, I can hardly imagine a new Diezel amp that can do something that Schmidt, Einstein, Herbert, VH4 and Hagen don’t. I am curious to see (and hear) an other miracle from Papa
