Most disappointing distortion pedal you ever tried

Mine would be this thing. I remember my guitar teacher (who was awesome) let me borrow this. I plugged it in and it sounded almost as bad as my 5 watt Gorilla amp. It sounded kind of like crumbling a piece of paper.

Agreed. Piece of shit. Other than the TU 2/3 I can’t think of any Boss pedals that do anything for me.

I like a couple - the digital delays are good. I've had a bunch of DD3s and RV3s that have been awesome. The flanger, bass chorus, and fuzz are all good too.

I hate the metalzone, SD1 and DS1 though. Basically all of their gain pedals are the anti-dan. I don't give a shit who uses them, or how they use them, they all sound like fizzy ass to me LOL

I very much prefer the old yellow Ibanez flanger over anything Boss made. And the MXR delays.

MXR is way better at analog/dark sounding delays, carbon copy etc

The boss delays are for the "perfect" sounding digital style, and they're amazing at it

Bogner Ecstasy Red mini. So many rave reviews. I tried it over and over. Fizzy muddy mess. Hated it no matter what I did. I was so happy when I traded it.

After that, any "vintage" multi hundred (if not thousand) dollar whatever. I don't care who used it on what album. No pedal is worth amp money. Rat, TS808, BluesBreaker, etc.

The Marshall Guv'nor. It only sounded good into a Marshall amp, because it more Marshalled your Marshall. At that point, I got enough Marshall out of my Marshall that it didn't need more Marshall, so a Marshall into a Marshall was too much Marshall.

Marshall Marshall Marshall

I had one of those yellow Flangers. It did sound good but the flanging bled through to the signal even when it was off.

Mine didn’t. It was kick ass on bass.

TAFM and that Flanger on the opening riff of Killing in the Name was fucking massive.

I got it used so I guess it had some kind of issue. The flange tone quality was excellent but still no match for the Strymon Orbit.

Honestly any pure distortion type pedals don't work for me
Only an od pedal in front of a dirty amp reacts the right way

I had a Blackout Effectors Mantra Drive that was amazing into little combos or pedal platforms. It was the only "Amp in a Box" pedal I liked, but I would never use it like that. I, like you, would rather just boost a real amp. You have to do the pedal platform thing for those pedals to shine.

Boss DS1.

I don't care how you use it, gain up, gain down, volume up, volume down, it sounds like hissy seattle shit

Imho it's only good if used as booster, it gives some cool upper mids and doesn't flub. It pairs rather well with Orange amps. But it's still noisy.

I'd saved up all my pocket money until I just had enough to get a DOD Supra-Distortion from my local store that sold all sorts of stuff as well as guitar gear. But I was just so underwhelmed with it. Just did not chug like metal obssessed me wanted. Course novice me didn't know about "scoop" settings and detuning and all that back then. Oh and that 10" speakered solid state budget priced combos are NOT 4x12 stacks! Haha! My dad, sensing my constant frustrations at failing to sound as "heavy" as my fave bands, eventually took me to a larger, more specialised store in a nearby city and I got a RAT that I loved and still have and play today.

The bassist in my first "real" band ended up getting the DOD off me and it sounded great!

Joe Satriani had no problem with the Boss DS-1. Today there are better choices
The DS-1 has no upper mids. It's scooped and bassy with a mostly unusable TONE control. I ran mine into an MXR 10 Band EQ.
