Blackstar, Jet City, Krank, etc.

which is the most brutal?

HT5

only one I've owned, but from what I've seen it's the one that can get the "heaviest" all on its own.....

yea HT5 was my instinct.

i tried to get one when they were 200 new, the prices are crazy now.

guess i need to edit my post to include 20 watters.

the little Krank Rev should be brutal, but don't know why they don't use EL-84's?

The Krank Rev was very disappointing to me. I just ordered a little 20 watt Randall MTS. It's more expensive than most of the other 20 watt options but the thing just kills, from full on metal to classic rock to hard rock. I'm stoked!

Nice post, keen to see what everyone has to say!

Clips also

racksystem's modded jca20 sounds like it gives everyone else a ass kicking.

I wish I never had traded my HT-5 for a Tiny terror. Have you considered the HT-20 with EL-34s?

I have a Krank Rev Jr standard. I think it gives the brootalz. Use the boost switch and turn up the gain on the FX loop to drive the power tubes.

Bunch of Rev Jr clips in my sig. - not listed all together - need to scroll down. As always, ignore my sloppy playing.

Randall RM20 with a modded high gain module is pretty metal IMHO... EL84s but has a depth and presence control, footswitchable boost, full fx loop... hard to beat.

The JC20 can get pretty heavy with a little help. I'm not a fan of EL84 power tubes for that type music. They tend to get muddy real easy when you feed them a lot of gain.

I'll give it a + 3/4.

You don't need a modded module. They are nice but not necessary. Get an Ultra, 1086, SL+. or any of the other high gain modules. I use an RM20 with an Egnater Rebel 112x cab for rehearsals and jam sessions. Works great. Usually I am running a Mr. Scary or 1086 with it.

I prefer modded modules obviously (Grins) but stockers just seem a bit muddy and undefined to me. The RM20s are great little amps, I'm amazed they aren't more popular.

I remember a long time ago playing a H&K limited/special? edition 20 watt tube combo that had a pretty good high gain sound straight in. It was a simple 2 channel, shared EQ but also had reverb I believe.

I play mostly modern metal....... I tried the Blackstar HT head , the Jetcity JA20 and the Egnater Rebel30

The Egnater costs the most and is 30 watts not 20 or under like you mentioned, but IMO it smokes the others mentioned. Much clearer and usable gain, with a boost it does all out brutal tight gain. It has an awesome clean channel also and sounds great at low volume. Very flexible also with the tight bright switches, tube blend and wattage adjustment.

I searched around for a while trying a bunch of different low wattage tube amps for practicing and playing at lower volumes than my 100watters...... The Egnater is great for an amp under a grand. Ive heard the Budda stuff sounds really good also but didnt get a chance to try them. People say they dont do metal but I bet with a boost they do.

I was underwhelmed by both the Jetcity and the Blackstar. Not bad for the price though I guess.

hows the little bitty Satch combo?

and anybody play the Jet City Pico yet?

Jack Napalm,

How do you find the RM20 for jamming is it loud enough to keep up with drums and bass .I hear conflicting reports on that..
