Okay, I'm still riding high in the honeymoon phase with this new [to me] VHT Pittbull Ultra Lead head. It's truly an amazingly versatile head. In fact, I currently also own a Bogner XTC Classic and a Traynor YCS100H, both VERY versatile heads. But the VHT puts them to shame for the amount of ground it can convincingly cover. From twangy country, to smoldering blues, to brown classic rock/metal, to new all-out scooped metal. This thing is a BEAST and I'm truly inspired by it. Yesterday I was doing scooped, drop-tuned metal and today I was doing country ala Brad Paisley and Keith Urban and loving every single minute of it.

The most versatile amps that I own or have owned in order of versatility...

1. VHT Pittbull UL
2. Traynor YCS100H (has "scoop" and "modern" switches that put it ahead of the amps that follow for being able to do metal)
3. Bogner XTC Classic
4. Hughes & Kettner Triamp Mk I
5. Bogner EL34 Shiva

I'm sure there'll be a lot of other amps mentioned such as the Diezel VH4, Mesa Mk V, etc... and I'd love to try those amps someday.

Not owned, but could cover alot of ground and ranks up there with one of the best sounding amplifiers is a laney GH100TI 120W single channel monster. loved the one i had the chance to borrow to fill in for someone elses band a few years ago.

Sig:X
Engl Savage SE
Triamp MkI

:D

Naw... cause I didn't list my 11R either.

That Savage SE has been of interest to me for a while. Would love to plug-into one. And since this Pittbull has bowled me over so much, the Sig:X has been on my radar as well. I almost took a chance on the Sig:X before I sprang for my XTC instead last December. The XTC had been one of my dream amps for the past ten years, so I had to scratch that itch first. ;)

Yeah. VH4, Mark V, and you can't forget about the JVM! All insanely versatile.

Egnater Mod50. Most versatile mods were the bman, and eg5. But you can always swap modules too. Loved that amp. Still love my M4!

Hughes & Kettner Switchblade--all the tone, gain, and FX you'll need, unless you're doing some weird outer-worldly stuff.

Hughes & Kettner TriAmp MK II--tons of different tones and a Red Box D.I. on-board.

After that the playing field becomes fairly level...

Mmmm... yeah... about that... ;)

I had a Mk I with MIDI module and EL34s. It was pretty awesome and very versatile. But it would not do scooped modern metal. The Switchblade maybe...

There's not much H&K love on this forum, but my Switchblade friggin' rocks. The lead guitar player in my band has a JCM 2000 with a Marshall cab (Celestion speakers / not sure which ones...) and everyone that makes a compliment about tone picks my rig over the JCM every time (and it sure isn't because of my playing   ). I'm not knocking the JCM - God knows there are several Marshall amps I'd love to have - but the H&K is a very versatile and capable amp that seems to fly under the radar.

Marshall JMP 2204 for me. Great clean and dirty tones. Plenty of headroom. Works well with pedals.

Bogner Ecstasy 101B and a Mesa/Boogie DC-5 are my 2 most versatile amps I own. My VHT 50 CL doesn't have a clean channel, nor my 2203. I have an older QuickRod with shared EQ but the clean isnt super clean but usable.

Disagree on the CL.

I'll nominate my 50 CL because with the green channnel, tube rectifier, and low output pickups, I get beautiful cleans. And mid break up... gotta work ALL volume levels. Super versatile. And that VHT eq really helps...
It's been the keeper because of the versatility...

All my diezels and I would say my elmwood m90. I did have a vht clx that was pretty versatile also.

It is a keeper no doubt, I love mine but but doesnt have a true clean channel. I also have a the EQ plus Reverb on mine. You can make it be semi versatile but to me that would be from metal to brilliant clean jazz to top 40 and the 50 CL wouldn't be my first choice. See UL and CLX for a cool VHT clean channel.

Clean channels to me are not that important as I can fake it even on a 2203 (single ch amp) but I play rock and metal, play loud, roll the volume on the guitar for clean intros and arpeggiated parts. :)

Definitely my Mark V. Easily one of the most versatile amps ever made.
