The Black Winter is often lauded for its versatility and ability to clean up pretty well. What other high output humbuckers are people's favorites for handling anything from cleans to crunch to extreme high gain?

DiMarzio X2N. Won't get pristine clean, but cleans up well with guitar volume.

Seymour Duncan - The Duncan Custom (SH-5/TB-5)
DiMarzio - EVO 2 (DP215/DP215F)
Suhr - Doug Aldrich bridge model
Gibson - O.G. Dirty Fingers
Bill Lawrence - O.G. L90

There will be radical compromise somewhere in the just of it.
My guess, a Super Distortion with good pots/caps and the volume rolled back for the clean ends.

The MCP Solution is a faithful match minus those damn cleans.

Honestly to get that whole gamut of tones from pick-ups..
-ya gonna have to start with finding the right tuning spots for the pick-ups tuned with the amp your going to play through.
Finding balance will determine more in the signal then the pickups themselves for the pick-ups to do that themselves..LTFOL man!!!
F’n long day man…
I don’t really think of the pickups being that important anymore, adjust them..decent parts..
run the hell out of them.
I do like killer shit, no doubt but…is it worth the coin?
Look at the magical shit the ToneNerd guys winds.
He’s not asking for your kids college tuition for a set of damn pick-ups either👌.
That’s who I’d hold out for and get it right if I’m gonna tear the guitar all apart…

Another vote for the Custom but I'll go a step further and vote Custom Custom (SH11/TB11). That's the one I have in my mains.

I've tried too many times to match sounds based on a pup I Ioved in one guitar, when there were different woods and shapes involved. I haven't found one pickup that works in every guitar for me personally. These days, I have to hear it first, and determine what I want based on what's already in it. I have a baseline from trying most of the popular production pickups. Ideally I'm not looking for anything.

50s wiring will help with this because of the taper change. The last 3rd of the pot can get you the finite adjustment you need.

Super Distortion in bridge & neck, ‘50s wiring, orange drops, I think .15 neck & .22 bridge in 2021 ‘60s standard Les Paul. Judicious use of volume control, love the range of clean to distortion!

The super distortion is not a versatile pickup. It sounds like ass for cleans and even more ass for death metal.

The duncan custom is okay but not much better TBH

This thread is full of bullshit answers of people just saying their favorite pickup, with no regard to the most versatile

This is the way of these threads. :ROFLMAO: You know how it goes.

Just in case anyone who isn't completely retarded comes back and reads this thread, I want it to be known that one person who commented also is not a complete and utter retard

Good lord, what a load of crap, OP asking for pickups ala the black winter, people cannot fucking help themselves but recommend their version of TGP "baja tele and an AC30"
