So I've been using motor city pickups in my guitars since late 2008.

I currently have two hell baby sets , one in an RG and one in a PRS. When first trying out motor cities I used the nuke, solution, hellbaby, and blister bucker.

Lately I have been trying lots of boutique pickups; smits, mhd, guitar force, bg, the creamery, fralin,

The only reason I haven't tried any other motor cities is the really really poor " killz babiez" information/ descriptions on their website, no reviews and I don't feel like calling wade just to "browse". I seems like every time I search I find a name of yet another new motor city.

So with all that having been said I'm here to ask you guys to fill in some blanks for me please.

I'd like information/ descriptions about these pickup models, please include dc resistance and magnet type if you know them.

Zeus

Hothead

Nasty Nasty

Garuda

Warcry

Black Iron

I'm currently looking for a bridge humbucker for an American standard strat that will fatten/ darken the guitar a bit. High output.

Thanks RT

Dimarzio Tone Zone will do that, would'nt call it Botique but I was very pleased when I put one in to darken and fatten my guitar.

Edit for typo and a question.

The Nuke sounded to hot from the horrible description they have on the sight.

Was that the case?

I think you've already mentioned exactly what you need .... Hothead !

As evidence, check Mark Day's latest YouTube vid: He cover's Journey's Stone in Love with a strat that he just dropped a Hothead into ! High Gain, Sounds Warm(er) than stock to me ..., and plenty FAT too !

cool thats two hothead votes right now one here and one through pm. what the specs on the hothead? what magnet?

I know there is no Zeus pickup that I am aware of and the Warcry is no longer being made. I recommend you contact Wade via email or phone. He will be able to help you choose the right pickup.

I would look into the Hot Heads or the Angel Dust A5. The Garuda is very close to the JB, but without the nasally/spiky midrange or the loose bottom end. It is a great pickup.

My fav so far is the Angel Dust A5. It is very thick in the low mid range with a nice aggressive top end. Not very bright in my my Alder bodied Carvin bolt. I do have the Hot Heads coming in a Luxxtone that I ordered. Here is Wades description.

"MotorCityPickUps"BE100 for me too! My go to amp. I'm on my way to Dirty Shirley : ) Thanks Mark for posting! I really enjoyed the originality of your playing and the fact that you DID"NT play note for note is a huge plus in my book. I actually can't stand note for note playing. Job well done sir! I'm really interested in some of your original material. Thanks again Mark, that was awesome.
Inquiring minds!!As far as the new HotHead pickups specs/materials/output they are Alnico5 custom poured for MCP and we used the exact same mold Gibson used from the very early 60's up til 75' I believe periodically. After some work and learning/reading demagnetizing date charts with demagnetizing force-h- and oersteds (kilogauss Induction) I made my move. The character they bring to my designs are flawless and unique with a old world flavor. The material is rare, and has much more Iron content/less carbon making for an extreme transfer of magnetic flux/field. The challenge was the wind, tuning the coils individually without to much, too little and just right. The wire is Plain Enamel, each coil getting there own individually spec'd spools also. There are a few other things that I will not mention : )
As far as an actual technical data sheet:
Plain Enamel wire
Custom "Old World" Alnico 5 magnet
Ac resistance- 14.8-15k
Brief Notes: Snatches the airy top end of the early originals with a touch of juicy warmth. Hefty, tight lows. Very balanced midrange that is very complex in overtones with the availability of true glory on volume rolls while remaining organic and strong with a tremendous touch response. This pickup was tested and refined primarily using the Friedman BE100, 2 custom Metropoulos amps, Stock marshalls, Metropoulos 100 cabs (celestions), a slew of other Marshall amps and amps. Guitars the pickup performed extremely well in: Vintage Lp's, Fenders, Custom Rampages and a few other things- The usual suspects
*without looking over my reviews from a host of other touring/session musicians that have contributed their time and views over the last few yrs with this model, Bass/mid/treb would be 6.5/5/6 and the output would be a conservative 6 out of 10. The actual gain structure is a 7 out of 10- This piece really gets it without loosing it. You never know the HotHead is going to explode. Mark Day is the last guy that has the actual finished prototype and I am waiting on his short brief review and I will compare final notes and write my report for the new site. Take all the time you need Mark, lol. The site has been due for yrs. (Figures! Marks review came in when I finished this)
Thanks a lot guys for all the inquires. I am accepting orders for long standing customers only for this model at this time until the new site hits(shortly!)
Peace, Wade-MCP

Id rather not call wade to "browse" especially when the site should have been updated for the last three years.

Ive already let Wade know his site prevented me from buying at least two or three more sets from him. i guess my holding out is hoping hell get the message and update the site though i wont hold my breath.

the zeus has been mentioned before and a page exists here :http://motorcitypickups.com/products/zeus.htm

thanks so much for the information on hotheads! seems pretty cool.

Man his pickups come and go so fast due to materials he NEEDS the site to be working..

Yeah, I just call him and ask him about his pickup's and have good luck with chating with him. I will continue to give him my business because his pickups are that good IMO. He is working on the website, I do know that but it is obviously taking longer than expected.

Yeah, the Zeus has been mentioned before on RT, but he has not mentioned it when I talked to him a few times. Who knows what it is?

His site hasn't changed in as long as I can remember. Some pickups have no description whatsoever. Wade is a super nice guy but obviously a creative type and not super business minded.

i get that jason and id rather have him play his strengths too, but i cant help but feel that if he is running a BUSINESS he needs another person to handle this stuff if he can't. i dunno why the crappy site irks me so much, i guess i just like to do my shopping alone and quietly.

maybe its just me, yeah thats it im just a little weird. then again the greatest pickups on the planet SHOULD have a killer site with clear and concise sound descriptions.

Wade is a one man shop so things tend to take longer and are different than usual. I think it would be benefical to even provide a description for his other pickups like the one he gave for the Hot Head on Mark Day's thread just until he has his new and improved website up and running. Maybe on this forum with a MCP thread? On that note, his pickups do kick ass!!!

No Rick, it's not just you I completely agree with your point. He should get someone to do update the site for him. His prices have gone way up since I bought from him so he should put a tad bit of that into site upkeep. Wouldn't take much at all. Just some info would be nice!

I stopped being interested because of that exact thing.

In other news...have you ever tried Manlius pickups? I have a buddy who loves them.

Off topic a bit.....but what did you not like about Smits? I just fitted 2 guitars with them and I'm blown away. I've only tried the MCP Afwayu, but I've used a ton of Bareknuckles and also a Manlius set. The Smits are in a whole different ballpark to my ear. And they are really affordable......not to mention his 30 day tweak policy.

Wow, the prices on these are insanely low!!!!

I havent tried any manilus ill check them out. I actually really like the two smits pickups i have. A db sinature which is a warpig type and the chainsaw which is an alnico 8 overwound paf. Smits is great.

The Smits sound like they are great pickups especially for the price, but it is hard to beat the MCPs as far a tone IMO.

Cool thinking about trying an asphalt. Great prices!

The Asphalt does seem a pickup I might like and you cannot beat the prices. I am curious about this one, but I really do prefer Wades pickups and they have worked wonderfully in almost everyone of my guitars.

My buddy is pretty particular about pickups and he really likes the Manlius stuff. He says Mick is a really good dude, too.

He does total custom winds as well.
