I just ordered my "Detroiter" pickups and one single coil from Wade! Can't wait to try them out!
Wade is a super cool guy to deal with. He spent a crazy amount of time on the phone with me and seems very concerned that I get what I want from him.
I encourage everybody who is looking for new pickups to give Wade a call. Not too many guys like him around.
Peace!

Yep, Wade is da man!

He treats all of his customers the same, big or small. My experience completely agrees with yours; his pickups have also made HUGE improvements to my tone.

He is a great guy!! Dont get him started on talking about 80's hair metal!! I've called with a quick question and a 1/2 hour later I'm telling him I'd better let you get back to work! Super guy and great pickups! You'll love them!

Yeah, him and I got into a loooong conversation about modern amps.. Cool dude!

I just put a set of nickel covered 2nd degree blackbelts in my R9 and I am absolutely blown away - exceeded my expectations.

I should also give some props to Luxxtone who I bought these from - I received them the same week I ordered and I live on the opposite coast.

Johnny, glad you are diggin' 'em man!! Would have liked to seen your smile when you hit that first open G chord on that dimed Plexi!!

I just love how open, yet not harsh those pickups are.

Thanks JQ! We always try to ship within 24 hours, and Priority Mail gets places really quick....I'm surprised more companies don't use good 'ole USPS Priority fro smaller stuff. I'm really glad you like them, those pickups are killer.

How does the Detroiter compare to the 2nd Degree BB?

The Detroiter is a little hotter, at around 9.2k. Has much more snarl to it, I always say it sounds like it has 10% P-90 in it. Drives the amp harder and sounds very pissed off. The 2nd Degrees have less push and a little more low end and low mids...very big and open sounding. Both have great clarity and openness and string separation, but the 2nd Degrees have a little more note separation. Both are lower output, but they'll drive your amp harder than you would think...but they are not high output pickups at all.

I wonder how the Solution compares to the BK Miracle Man and Pain Killer. It seems like Motor City's are the new craze eh?

My Hell Babies are absolute killers. uncompressed, powerful and the clearest pickup I have ever heard! Wade has my business for life!

Id say Wades pickups are equivalent yet different in regard to BKs.

You guys have no idea how true of a statement he is making here.....I mean, really!

I also have to give a BIG 1+ to Wade.

Got my custom in last week and was floored. I'll be ordering replacements for all of my other guitars real soon. I'm soooooo glad I talked everyone here about my pickup decision, thanks again to the ones who showed me Motor City Pickups.

I've got both pickups, each in a mahogany bodied axe. The Solution has a harder-edged crunch to it, and a super-tight bass response. It's a pickup with a lot of aggressive punch. Very similar to how an EMG crunches yet without the sterility. The Painkiller is different, not as hard edged and not quite as tight.

PainKiller - old school metal and thrash
Solution - more modern metal and thrash.

So true... the 2nd degree blackbelts really drive the amp and yet have so much openness and clarity to them. The first thing that Wade would tell anybody is that you cannot measure the true output of a pickup based on it's resistance.

That Detroiter really has me interested, but the guitar I would put it in has Hellbabys already and there is no freakin' way that I will ever remove those. I need more guitars!

Not to highjack this thread, but what MCP would you suggest for an LP? Tone that I would be looking for is something thick and gritty. Something that can cover classic rock type stuff but also do modern/alternative type stuff as well. I currently have Blisster Buckers but I'm wondering if the 2nd degree would be a better pickup for a good thick rock tone and an LP. Thanks!

I have a Painkiller in a PRS SC250 (tuned to e) and a Solution in an ESP Horizon (tuned to c). Both mahogany with maple caps. I feel like the Solution is closer to the EMG 81 but more organic sounding. The painkiller has a little bit of a mid-spike to it. It think they are both really tight pick-ups. I like both, but I like my all MC pick-ups (solution, afwayu and hell baby) better than the BKs I've played (painkiller and nailbomb).

Call Wade, Tell him what you want and he will steer you in the correct direction.

Used the "Detroiter" pickups last night for the first time.. AWESOME tone and mojo going on! Definitely not a hot pickup. I love both the bridge and the neck. I don't use neck pickups much but this thing is just great. I also put a single coil in the middle position and it is very nice.
