Not sure if this has already been posted. I searched but couldn't find anything yet. So...

I've been a Paul Gilbert fan since the RacerX days. And I've been a Mr. Big fan since their very first album. Caught them at The Brady back in '92 (before I even lived in Tulsa). All these years later, they original 4 are back together working on a new album. Paul shreds and doesn't even try. Great song. Riffs. Ah ... the 80s have returned!

“Undertow”, the new video from the reunited MR. BIG, can be viewed below. The song comes off the band’s new studio album, “What If…”, which will be released in Europe on January 21, 2011 via Frontiers Records. The North American release, also on Frontiers Records, will follow in February.

“What If…” is MR. BIG’s first “all-original” album since the reunion of the four original members, Eric Martin, Paul Gilbert, Billy Sheehan and Pat Torpey, back in early 2009. Sixteen years after the release of “Hey Man”, the new recording is set to bring back MR. BIG on the height of the current hard rock scene.

Guitarist Paul Gilbert said: “This is the first MR. BIG album I have been a part of, since fourteen years and it was done in a snap. It was fun and we had really a good time in making this one.” Adds Billy Sheehan: “It’s so great to be back with Paul, Eric and Pat, too. We wrote this record like we did in the old days for the first two records. Jamming together in the same room to write songs.” Pat Torpey states: “Some of the recording process is different now from what we were used to in the old times. But I think this record really managed to capture the performances of the band, not of the individual musicians.” Eric Martin concludes: “I like to compare this to the first album, when we just got to know each other in a reharsal studio and cut it in eight or nine days. This is like chapter two. We had so many years, so many records and so many things behind us. Now this feels like a beautiful brand new chapter starting for all of us.”

Hmm...that wasn't too bad. No bass tapping though

his vocals just as annoying as they were over 20 years ago as well as Billy Sheehan's ghey dance moves

I thought you were into ghey dance moves. :D

The music is good. The vocals are awful. Personally, would have preferred a heavier, darker (emotionally) take on the vocals. Something closer to Soundgarden, Alice in Chains, or Tool. The music is certainly heavy enough for that direction. As it is now, the vox gives the song a pop-like feel. Too close to a mix between Aerosmith and Goo Dolls. No that singer sounds like those guys. But the arrangement gives off that vibe. Not necessarily a bad thing. But not my cup-o-tee.

No, that's gay dance moves. :)

I don't have a problem with the Vox? I think his technique and pitching is flawless  Love the SC tone. Reminds me of "Eye Of The Tiger" crossed with Van Hagar. I wish my band was that tight!

i like it till the break and chorus.. paul sounds good ,the solo wasnt over done
ill give it a 5

Considering that they're in their 40s and 50s, I think it's fucking great! I'd like it if it were a new group of younger guys too.

Cool, but simple riff, uplifting chorus, cool guitar tone, and great playing. What's not to like? I love the fact that it's not an over-thought song -- not dark or strange. . .just straight up rock.

I need this on my Ipod, is it out yet??

Gentlemen, please think big picture here. There is a guitar solo in this song.

If you don't like these guys because it is just not your type of music fair enough, but Paul and Billy are 2 of the best players in rock. Yes the song does sound like the 80's, but it is an 80's era band that recorded it. I'll take this over most of the new music out there and I am not much of a Mr. Big fan.

As I said in the last thread about this video.. I loved it. Every last second. I've listened to it about 100 times since it went up a few days ago. Can't wait to hear the rest!

That was really cool. Now if the rest of the album sounds like that, and they skip the cheese ballad, I'll be all over it!

I just listened to it again, I still don't like it. Let me try again.
After 100 listens you'll be humming it.

I think they were using Marshalls
Not sure if you're serious? I don't think you can hear technical capability. Most bands can't get 2 notes in a row to click in time. So it's not your thing? You can't deny the talent.

Thank god.........................

I like it and will work hard to find a version without the vocals, Paul sounds awesome and his best tone recorded imo.

We lift up our hearts to Paul Gilbert!
