MusicMan support rant

I am a bit disappointed by the MM support.

Thing is my Axis' Floyd got some nicks on the knife edges and goes out of tune. So I asked MM support for a new base plate and studs for my MM Floyd.

After some back and forth with MM support in US who helped me very quickly and gave me parts numbers for a base plate and studs, now the German distributor tells me that they cannot just sell me the damaged parts but I have to buy a complete trem off them and it's 300€ !!

I gotta say I am not pleased, not at all!!

Guess I'm just gonna get a new Gotoh Floyd for 110€ then ...

Yeah they wouldn't sell me a saddle for my evh Floyd either so I'm in the same boat. Kind of a bummer but what can ya do...

This might be a silly question since I never use or play MM stuff but aren't there aftermarket parts you can get cheap?

Sorry if I'm a bit dumb, but what exactly are aftermarket parts?

as an example a pickguard for a strat from all parts vs fender original replacement parts. the all parts one tends to be allot cheaper.

Sure as said in my OP, the Gotohs are just 110,-

I haven't found base plates and studs from Gotoh though, just complete units.

I need to measure to ensure it's 100% compatible. And I will lose the "MusicMan" badge on the base plate. But after this experience with them, I might regard that as a good thing

ah right I thoguht they might sell the individual parts. well one way to look at it is the gotoh are great. at least I havent had any issues with the one I have on one guitar. Think of it as an upgrade

you could probably file out the knife edges on you existing trem.

That's some total B.S. IMO is the guitar still under warranty or what's the deal??? I know the reason John Petrucci switched to EBMM is because he could call them anytime and get the owner of the company for support. My friend said at a guitar clinic he actually did just that to prove a point when someone asked why he left Ibanez. Also I know a great guitar shop that carries a lot of those... only problem is your outside the USA :(

Obviously I'm not John Petrucci, so Ernie didn't give me his number

Filing off the edges is sth I thought about, but it will be difficult on the studs and i don't have the right tools. Plus I doubt it will really fix it - maybe postpone the replacement.

Guitar isn't under warranty - I bought it used of some Canadian guy in 2003 via the bay.

i got heat from german dealers when i wanted to order my ESP.

german douches IMHO

gotoh floyd's are extremely nice. i plan to use one on my ESP asap - i believe FR's are overrated in design and function.

sucks you will loose the musicman badge on the original, keep it though for a suiveneer (sp?) the guitar will hold more value that way.
