Here's the review:

Firejack-A Night at the Movies (self-released, 2009)

If you bonded your affinity for the chunky riffs of Lamb of God with the less pyrotechnic leanings of Dream Theater you’ll probably love you some Firejack.
It’s the one-man project of Aussie Gavin Spratt and provides much optimism for work to come.

Rhythm and lead guitars alike leap from the speakers with battle-ready bloodthirst, the programmed drums crash and bash all around them in surprisingly varied, full-sounding fashion and the vocals – wait, where the hell are they? Yea and verily, no vocals appear on any of the five songs here, which might be a creative decision of Gavin’s but are a pretty shoddy one. These riffs don’t have the originality or flair to stand up on their own, so the omission of singing/screaming/grunting is most definitely felt.

Barring that, the only real criticism is of a wayyy too happy California hard rock riff in “Zombies Go to Funland” that veers to the wrong side of frivolous, although the title of said track shoulda tipped me off to that.

Overall, A Night at the Movies is a well-written, well-constructed, well-recorded effort that, well, doesn’t add up to much, but it’s still inspiring to consider what one person can do working all by his lonesome.

Rating: 6/10
Running time: 30:33

If you want to hear them, here's the full versions of 4 of the 5 songs from the CD:
Zombies Go To Funland - https://www.soundclick.com/bands/page_so ... ID=8052491
Ghost In The Well - https://www.soundclick.com/bands/page_so ... ID=8052558
The Ancient Ones - https://www.soundclick.com/bands/page_so ... ID=8052467
Alien Invasion From Chi Sagittarii - https://www.soundclick.com/bands/page_so ... ID=8023160

Ah well, 6/10 isn't all that bad I suppose.
I'll just have to put in a bigger effort on the next CD.

:)

fuck critics. they're critics because they can't do it themselves. i'm sure you could always find one or 2 singers on here to work with. drucifer has an excellent set of pipes for one. but anyway-good for you bro!

Sounds solid....

The critics always trashed Rush.... It seems they have done alright.

Rock on!

Yeah, F em man! I've heard several of your tunes and I think they  !

You wanna read a messed up review? Check out the official itunes review of Core by STP. It's enough to make me sick.

Really appreciate the kind words.

I hate sending out discs for reviews. You need them for the press, but so often you wonder if they really even listened.

...those who can - DO...those who can't - REVIEW!

BTW - my next disc will be called Cinematoid. Hopefully, I didn't inadvertently steal your movie idea.
