My amp doing AC/DC JCM 800 50w

I don't know what it is but your amps always sound so organic and raw but yet they have this slight compression there that really makes note sing. Every single clip, so consistent. I know it is probably sour grapes that the mod (or a form of it) exists on the metro forum and i know you've likely tweaked it since then but you've got to be proud of something you have now named and released onto the world! The mod5 is essentially Rockstah's mod.

Sounds great. But it sounds like someone with a Van Halen tone covering AC/DC. Not like that's a bad thing or something.

I think the idea is that the modded amp retains a good Marshall sound. Not sure how loud the amp was but considering the amp probably nails VH, I thought the clip was pretty cool.

why people are debating whether or not they can get the ac dc sound with a stock amp or not.... as Rockstah mentioned, it is just a good version of a modded marshall that sounds great regardless.

Agree, It's a little sharp in the top end for AC/DC but it's a great rock sound. Thanks for posting the clip Mark, I think most modded marshalls lose this kind of sound in sacrifice to a high gain circuit. This sounds great.

+1 exactly! ;)

Great sounding amp

On another note, I think a lot of the VH vibe is there because of the Eb Tuning and Id be willing to bet that some of the VH vibe would change by tuning to 440 and by using a different guitar/pickup combo.

I wonder what guitar and pickups were used. Would definitely like to hear it with some '57 Classics or Burstbucker type pickup in a Mahogany guitar. As far as the comments about stock Marshall's doing it just as good. If it's a good one, absolutely but I've owned a few that al have the midrange bite but can be too snarly or fizzy on the top end (more so 2203's, not 1959's). We all know that not all Marshall's, from even the same year, are created or have aged equally. It seems there's an option now to narrow that gap.

I've watched these forums for years now and there will always be comments from people when it comes to modded amps. It's just the nature of the beast. I've heard my fair share of shitty sounding Marshalls and It's the reason why I walked away from them years ago. Are there great sounding stock Marshalls out there? ABSOLUTELY, but it has been my experianace that not every old Marshall will sound good and
In my Humble opinion Mark and other guys like him have found the recipe to making them sound good. That's all I got lol :D

interesting - it's got that Angus/Malcom grunt - but there's a lot more to the tone than just that - I dig it!

If I maybe so bold,...

over the last 7 years and trying every schematic Marshall has out there for superleads and superbass I from my time spent have found what makes any of those specs the good ones and what made them not so good. I always wondered why some sounded good and some didn't and had to find out why.

This particular amp in the clip was not known as one of the "good ones".
(Just like I did with the metal faces that were know to to not sound as good as the earlier ones, I made those sound just as good as the Plexi's.)

Everyone knows that the vertical input amps are the better ones, I had to find out why and with that I made this horizontal input amp just as good as the vertical amps, to start with before modifying it.

Note: I'm not saying I did anything different than anyone. I'm not saying I did it without any help. I'm only saying what I have done and what I do.

I love the Marshall sound and it's always about having that ultimate Marshall sound.

Mark
