My Axe-FX Ultra just crashed, and won't start back up now.

I was just jamming through it, then all of a sudden noticed the signal just cutting out and giving me a weird tinny tone. Thought it was a cable issue, and changed a couple cables around, but nope.

I look at the screen, and it's blank.

Then I turn it off, and now, whenever I start it, it gives me this. Nothing I've tried works.

Anyone have any insight?

Did you try turning it off and back on?
Maybe place the unit in a bag of rice overnight. ;)

Green screen of death. Now there's something you'll never get with a Marshall.

I don't know if this has anything to do with it... but my standard just did something similar and the battery needed to be replaced... it's SUPER easy to do, visible right when you take the top off... and the battery costs like 6 bucks... mine just died, would sometimes start up, and sometimes just be blank... maybe look into it... hope you get it working...

Yep, you probably need to change the internal battery. Same thing happened to me 6 months ago. Unfortunately, all my presets were gone with it and I had to start over.

Ask on the Fractal Forum. You'll get lots of tips. If you have to contact support, they will get you up & running quick.

Always back up your Axe Fx to your computer at least a couple times a month. Only takes a few minutes

I've never had a problem after years of owning my Axe2, but if you're not backing up your unit you're nuts

Yeah, it was a pain. I only had 3 presets though, so not a huge deal. Granted, I have an Axe Ultra. The original Axe Edit software for those is pretty buggy, so I just stopped using the software.

I contacted support, looks like I need to send it in.

I might just try to change the internal battery myself though if it's an easy fix. Thanks for the help!

I'm surprised that Fractal would fix it for you. The model is discontinued. If they do fix it, that's a +1 for them.

One of the criticisms I have of digital & processor-based equipment is that when the units become discontinued, it's difficult to find 3rd party engineers to fix them when they go U/S.

So what happens when you are playing out live and this thing crashes? Not to derail your thread. That would really suck. I mean how long would it take your tech to replace the battery and dump all your patches back into the unit. If the battery is the issue. Seems if it was the issue it wouldn't have started acting up while you were using it. I have synths with batteries that have been dead for years and they power up and play fine I just can't store patches locally. Anyway I hope that is your problem and good luck.

Does the Axe FX have some sort of BIOS? I cannot remember a time when I ever had to change the battery on the motherboard of a PC.

You would have some kind of backup plan, just like you should if you're using a tube amp live

The Ultra is discontinued, but it's not like they don't know how to fix it. Fractal goes above & beyond with everything. Great company

I had to send an older unit in for repair. They still fix the older stuff.
It was a pretty fast turn around also.
