So I exchange emails with this guy for like a week about selling him my OCD. I Tell Russ M. here on the forum that I promised this guy dibbs, so i couldn't sell quite yet to him. Today we finally have some time to do the transaction. I am nice and drive to meet him by his work(about 20 minutes)....he looks over the pedal and confirms that it is brand new condition and really nice. Then offers me $20 lower than i had it listed! :gethim: I said I was selling it for what I bought it for and that I can sell it for that price. He brings his kids into it and says they need clothes and food. The guy is driving a newer land rover. I just snatched the pedal and told him to lick sack!

Don't waste my fucking time all week then lowball me when we meet up, especially when I drive to you! For a split second, I thought of knocking him the fuck out, but I just left him standing there.

That really pissed me off. Rant over!

Update!
So about 20 minutes ago i get this text..."Since I keep thinking about your OCD I think I should bite the bullet and go for it...is it still available? I am not gonna sell to him cuz he wasted my time yesterday, but how should I word it that he is a tool? lol

That's ridiculous. You negotiate the price before you meet up, and you don't drive your new Land Rover if you want to complain about having to feed your kids, nor do you buy a new pedal if $20 is the difference between feeding and clothing your kids.

From now on, I would suggest you bring a glove with you to these meet ups. If anybody pulls that again, slap him across the face to the left and then to the right with the glove, and challenge him to a duel.

That shit really grinds my gears. The last 3 things I tried to sell on CL all ended similarly. And each time I confirmed the exact item and cash amounts that were to be exchanged, and it turned out like "hey man, would you take 20 bux less its all i gots"

fixed

  This just happened twice in the last 2 weeks. First I'm selling a brand new DD3 for $80. Dud says the price is cool and he has the money, then comes over to test it out with my stuff, then offers me $60  I told him no and he paid the $80. Then another guy wanted to buy an emg81 off me for $50 brand new still in the box with wiring. He texted me, said he was on his way with the $50 then gets to the meeting spot and says he only has $40?? :gethim: I just left and sold to some other non-douche for $50.

happens everytime I try to sell something off craigslist. We meet up and then they proceed to low ball me even further, or say they only have such and such with them, is that alright?

ticks me off too.

Same exact thing happened to me when meeting up to sell a Bogner cab via CL. People are assholes!

CL+ musicians, who...let's be honest here....are flakes to begin with...it's the recipe for the perfect storm of douchebaggery.

Never did Craigslist.
I did meet with 2 guys that I bought stuff on Ebay though that were local.
Both them deals smooth as silk.
One was our own Jeff Hilligan from Egnater!

Bought a Guitar from him and we bullshitted for about an hour when we met. VERY COOL GUY!!

Other guy I bought a Randall RG100 from. He drove it on up to where I live at. Cool guy to deal with as well.
Your stories makes me want to stay away from Craigslist though....

Dont want to have to knock some asshole out. :gethim:

I hate to say it...but Ebay is the ONLY place I've had any luck selling gear.

Tell them to print out your ad and bring it to the meet, or you won't do the transaction. And tell them the printed ad will serve as their bill of sale. That way they can't argue with you on the spot about the price. You could print it out, but they could play stupid and say you changed the price afterward. That's a good policy, I think.

douchebaggery indeed. a similar prick wanted to buy my evh phaser. he was a coworker of my gf and i knew he made a shit load of money. i was giving him a great deal yet, after about a week of emails from the prick, he told me he was buying a new house and couldn't afford the pedal. $400k+ house... i doubt the phaser purchase would blow the house deal.

The world has just gone crazy. I have had nothing but good experiences using evilBay and Flake's list. But the best transactions have been with forumites.

Sorry to hear man! I've had similar experiences. As far as craigslist, the douchebaggery is usually so apparent in the emails that I don't even set up a meet. The last similar experience I had though was off kijiji, which is basically the same damn thing. Guy hums and haws for a while, finally sets up a meet. He shows up way half an hour late, proceeds to low ball me by $150 on a US Strat. I tell him $850's the deal, and that's the price I dropped down to for him after plenty of email correspondence. He says he has to take off to get the momey, which leads to another 45 minute wait. I almost walked, thinking he just bailed. In the end I got my money but talk about pathetic. I've also been in your exact situation and just had to walk away. Some people are dinks.

glove slap, shut your big yap

What a fuck head! You did the right thing. The same thing happened to me with my LP goth. except it wa an hour drive and $100 dollars. Like a dumb ass I took the money. I wish I could go back in time and Beat His ASS!. :gethim:

Now Im all wound up ;)

I find that particular technique to be very prevalent. I generally go into it thinking about the fact that when money changes hands, it will be less than we agree to. For some reason people have the idea that when the cash is in your face, and you've arranged to meet, you'll accept a few bucks short, rather than call it off.

Calling it off was perfect, it might make him think twice about it next time.

That is pretty stupid on a pedal in excellent condition that you drove to meet him for. The "money for kids" thing is pretty insulting.

I don't see why people are complaining about getting lower offers on guitars, amps, and cabs. I would not give my offer on any of those until I had actually seen it or played through it. Do these same people call up a music store and offer a price before they test the gear?

I have had mixed results from selling on CL, mostly towards the bad. Usually alot of the idiots can be weeded out from emails. I have had everything from standup guys that show up, check out the gear and buy it for asking price to rich, bragging aholes try and lowball me on something I was pretty much giving away.

I have actually had a few good non-local deals that came from CL adds.

Yup....similar shit happened to me. I was selling a Martin for $1600 and one guy kept e-mailing me lowball offers. He finally agreed to my asking price and came by my place to pick up the guitar. Before he got here, I made it VERY CLEAR to him that my price was firm...and don't even think about haggling. When he got here he played the guitar for about 30 seconds and said the intonation was messed up and the small ding in the side was bigger than he thought it was and proceeded to offer me $1400,. Now mind you, I had a BIG pic of this tiny ding in the ad...not to mention that this guitar was setup perfectly w/ no issues..and it stayed in tune throughout all of the registers for days. I grabbed the guitar from him and said get the Fuck out of my house. He started whining and pleading with me and leave the premises immediately....and he did. I was pretty damn close to punching this guy in the face.
